Then it would be a Fiero. Not that there's anything wrong with Fieros.

No disrespect intended... but a V-6 Elise would be far from a Fiero. It would be a lighter, more nimble NSX.

Just my opinion. I'm happy with the four, but the torque of a six would be a blast!

The 3rd Gen Miata is likely to weigh less than 2000 lbs and deliver 170 Hp for about 25K. It would be hard for me to spend the extra money on an Elise if it weighed MORE than a Miata.

I seriously doubt the new miata will weigh less than 2000lbs, where did you hear that? The M2's weigh more anyway, plus they're adding a turbo I'd imagine it will weigh in closer to 2400lbs.

I have a nice miata for sale, 2200lbs 400hp....you should buy it instead.

People have speculated that if Mazda uses the 2.3L version of the Protege engine (the 2.0L seems more likely) it could potentially be tuned for 170HP. There has also been pure rumor that the target weight for the NC is 1000Kg. That's around 2200 pounds, and it's certainly not under 2000 pounds. And a target weight is just a target; it doesn't mean that Mazda will succeed in meeting it.

Sure, if the next generation Miata is 170HP and under 2000 pounds and costs $25,000, I will buy it. Lots of people will buy it. And then monkeys might fly out of my butt :-)

Jenn, I think he's talking about the NC, not the Mazdaspeed turbo Miata, which is likely to be 2500 pounds (since the current cars weigh 2400+ already).

Slightly off-topic, but since we're talking about Mazdas...anybody test-driven the RX-8 yet (just for fun and/or as a reference point)?

I haven't, but the local sales guy said he'd call me when they had a manual-transmission model in (right now all he had were two automatics :

I think the RX-8 would be a kindof cool car if it were about 2/3 the size that it is (but hey that's just me !) Also 1/2 the weight, right (actually I don't even know how heavy it is, but it can't be light, that I know).

Also read the threads about the tested HP of the RX8 on the RX8 forum. I wanted to buy one a while ago because I like the rotary engines. Then the Elise took it's place.
