Wiper Arm Bothers Me

Is anyone else bothered by the wiper arm on the Elise? It is an eyesore to me. Its just so, big. Its just like out there, I mean, it's gross.
Seriously, I hate it from outside the car and I hate it from inside the car.

Is there a low profile version that doesnt stick out 5 inches off the windshield?

I may just remove it all together.

Am I weird for being bothered by this?

It doesn't bother me. I get many comments that I have "Just one" though! I live in the Pacific Northwest and my 08 Exige S240 is my daily driver. My wiper (Not plural) is my best friend on rainy days! I get so caught up in the lines on "Her Sexiness" that I just look away from it I guess. For you it sounds like having a date with a beautiful girl that has lettuce in her teeth!!

There's not much of a better way to setup a wiper on these cars, there's no room for a cowl to hide it under, and it needs to be the size it is to wipe the whole windshield and to follow the contour of it.

I thought it looks quite exotic, sources:

Mine had never seen rain until the other day at the track! Never used it before and it just smeared. Maybe a new blade will help?

I've never used mine. My ex broke my wiper on my van in Japan years ago and I just used RainX. It rains for weeks in Japan and I just got used to it. My passengers were very afraid.

Mine only smeared as well last year the few times I got caught in the wet. When I stopped by Gator earlier this spring, they gave me a new one that works even better than those corny wiper commercials. Not sure which one exactly it is but I could find out for you if you want to replace yours. Came in handy yesterday on the way to a spirited drive

Same here, my Seattle area Elise see tons of rain. Never really bothered me and I have had the same comments as well. The rare times when my wife is in the car and it is raining, she always laughs at it and says "you only have one and its so tiny!"

Quick edit for my mansake...NO she is not talking about my penis!!!

I actually quite like it.
It harkens back to lots of LeMans type prototype race cars.
I believe the designers for the original Elise basically said, I'm paraphrasing a bit here but, "because racecar".

It hasn't ever bothered me although once in a while it obscures the face of my passenger in a photo taken from the front of the car.

Doesnt bother me. I drive it in the rain. I mean if it was built in the UK and it rains there most of the time then it can handle some rain here in Boston. Its not like my car will get hurt in the rain... cmon...

Clean wiper blade with alcohol or w/washer fluid once in a while.

I use BonAmi on w/s once or twice a year. Gets rid of stubborn substances found in, for ex, diesel exhaust.

For me Rain-X is always superior to a blade except in the case where you're just getting light spray on the windshield. Some of the folks I raced with didn't like the RainX, so they would use the wipers, which resulted in the wiper motor burning out.
The wiper motor doesn't like RainX when all of these are true:
- Extended use (hours)
- Light rain or just spray
- Wipers on high setting or normal setting with little if any water on the glass

The reality is that with RainX, I could see way more at 100+ mph than anyone with a wiper.

I think removing the wiper entirely could be a legal issue in most States for road use. Maybe keep it in the boot.
