Bigger engine

why has no one put the engine from the Porsche 911 gt2 into the lotus exige the flat 6 Porsche engine has 350 more hp and about 300 ft-lbs more torque and only weight 65kg more than the 2ZZ-ge Toyota engine. Even thought it would be a ridiculously expensive engine swap the outcome of a 2000 pound car with 530 hp would result in a extremely fast car that also does well on the track.

Almost as ridiculous as a V8, oh wait that has already been done. Ok, as ridiculous as a Viper engine. Isn't that what Hennesey is doing? I would be happy with a supercharged Evora motor.

Really....with enough engineering and money, you could probably put any engine into any vehicle....but there comes a time when it crosses the line of practicality...and this is one of those cases. Of course 'practicality' has different meanings to different people, so maybe it doesn't.

2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
2009 Audi R8

I'm hoping to put 4 Saturn rockets on my elise. That will be fast and it only weighs #$%$$ more than the 4 cyl.

I like cheese!

How about converting the elise to front engine - rear drive.
Or better yet, convert the elise to 2 engines, 4 wheel drive!

ever priced a hartley v8?we had one in our shop(west race cars)for the arial atom v8 conversion.its at least 30,000 for the engine alone.then you will need a gearbox to go with it for another 10,000.my car is worth less than that motor.

The Elise has a transverse (crossways) engine and a transaxle to suit.
This makes for a very short wheelbase chassis with a cramped engine bay.
The Porsche 911 has a rear mounted longitudinal opposed 6 engine with a gearbox to suit. Were you to transplant the Porsche drivetrain onto your Elise, you'd have to stretch the chassis between the firewall and the rear axle. Look at a Elise GT1.
That's just the start.....

I thought of doing the Porsche swap, but my helper panda is disturbed by air-cooled engine noise.
