Black color Elises -- sign in!

It seems most like to buy the colors for the elise. How many of you bought the black color? I've searched and found very few. Please post pictures or sign in!

Also, how does the black paint hold up to swirls/scratches? All of the cars I've owned or taken care of were black.

One last question. How does Starshield look on the black finish? Anyone have close up pictures of starshield on black?

Thanks

I have Starlight Black (metallic flakes in the paint), but there's also Phantom Black (no flakes). I can post pictures tonight, but I think it holds up just as well to swirls/scratches as any other Lotus paint. Starshield looks fine, just like on any other paint. My biggest complaint is that the pitting of the starshield around the rocker panels is white, and this tends to be pretty visible. Definitely going to replace those this winter.

When Mike (with the Krypton Green) and I got together the other day, lots of people thought they were two different kinds of cars! I guess the blending of the black plastic vents gives the car a completely different character. Hope this helps.

I've got Black...It's great!

Here are some pics I posted:

http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11446

As far as care and feeding:
Don't use an orbital polisher
Use only microfiber towels
I use a variety of waxes and they all seem to do the job just fine
Starshield? It's barely noticeable.
The black lotus nose badge looks particularly nice.

I'm waiting for someone to come-out with some carbon fiber grilles. Let's hope.

If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled; for you are in Elysium, and you're already dead!

I love my black car. It looks good. There weren't a lot of them at LOG 25. Just two. So it's not as popular as yellow, orange or blue.

eliseum- your car looks amazing!! thats what i love about black.

why did you opt for starshield rather than go with premier? even though starshield comes from the factory, isn't premier thicker and covers more area?

i'm definitely going for another black car. starlight or phantom i'm not sure. is phantom pure flat black like the bmw "jet black"? i guess i'll have to somehow see it in person.

sorry about my million and a half questions; thanks for all the help

The flake in the Starlight helps obscure some of the swirl marks, but they are there. My bet would be Phantom will show much more swirl if not cared for properly. Nothing looks better than a clean black car, but nothing is more difficult to keep clean either. A California Car Duster is a must with this car in black. Biscuit interior is behind the tint.

Who was the Black Elise on Sunset in LA on Thursday night. We sent CJ out to wave you down to come and join us for our weekday dinner at the Saddle Ranch. We had Eleven Elises in the parking lot. You would have made us an even dozen.

I never thought I would use the hardtop either, but the heat in Arkansas overwhelms the capacity of the a/c unit even on "mild" days. The tinting and the hardtop use are to help cool things down. Using both really works, plus it makes a black car look meaner too (+).

I went with the gray RACs because I thought black on black would be too much black and I already had silver (stock) rims. The gray was much darker than I anticipated, but I love them more and more each day. Painted calipers helped make the whole thing come alive as well. After a year of ownership, I now find myself going back into the garage just to look at it again. You can feel the weight difference (from stock) in the rims too.

Our car is Phantom Black; a non-metallic flake black that is reportedly a new color for 06. Evidently our car is one of two 05 US Elise that feature this color. When clean it looks amazing.

hey blur,

NO regrets here with starlight black on black. looks awesome with the hard top, and even more so with the top off and windows down. standard interior with windows cranks is nice and minimal, cloth seats are comfortable and cool.

and speaking of cool, starlight black is the steve mcqueen of colours for the elise - the king cool!!!

Very happy with Starlight

I've been very happy with the Starlight Black, but this isn't a surprise since I've always loved black cars. I think the black with red interior is the perfect combination.
