Wow!!! Could have not asked for a better partnership. Greg has been awesome supplying me with all my CF these past few months and his quality is always top notch. Test it on your CF console Greg, since thatís what I got anyways lol. No question Iíll be on the list. Keep us posted.

I think it'll be a tough project with variation between cars and all the engine movements, but sometimes it's about the journey not the destination.
It should be a fun challenge. Good luck!

Absolutely! Fingers crossed that variances aren't too bad :-)

So the V2 plate came in today, this time thanks to Greg! It's looking much better than before(and the plastic itself is much nicer than the stuff I'd ordered online, so thanks for that Greg!), but I still need to make several adjustments, took some dremeling to get things shifting well. Also I discovered that the center tunnel's sides slope downward a bit, so I need to adjust the sides of the plate to mimic that slope to sit flush.

Reverse needs to be brought in, right now it hits the plate & jerks it out of position.

Been playing around with the mounting mechanism too. I initially thought clamps might be sufficient, but that's not going to work from the look of things, not nearly secure enough.

Also my carbon tunnel and my stock plastic tunnel have very different inner lips - the carbon is far more sloped where the factory clamp holds the leather boot in place. That makes it a bad mounting surface. Right now I'm thinking of making a ring that fits under the plate(will prob be plastic, as no one will ever see this), and having a threaded hole on the underside of the plate. The ring would secure via a couple of bolts and clamp the bottom of the tunnel opening to the plate... at least that's my current idea. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!

And lastly I know people wanted me to upload a video rowing through the gears - so I've got a short(crappy) one here - I was holding my phone with my left hand, so I apologize for the movement. Keep in mind this is still WIP, I need to make some gates a bit deeper. Overall I like the gate widths, but may open that up slightly if I need to for better cross-car compatibility. I tried to show rowing through gears via two ways people might use - going more diagonally from 2-3, 4-5, and shifting like an H pattern(which is how I naturally shift). Both ways work with this.

interesting. I had no idea the gear arrangement was diagonal.

** save ~10 lbs gain 1 hp ** EQ: Y=(190*X) / (1984-X) where Y is (HP) and X is (lbs)

That was a discovery for me too when I started this project. With the boot in place, you'd never notice it. I was trying to figure out how to get all the gates to fit on the plate when I mapped it out. I think it's actually kind of a neat arrangement, was worried that they'd all end up being random lengths. If there were a choice, I'd probably still go for all gates of equal length, but there's just no way to get 6th as long as 2nd.

We can machine out a second "retainer ring" for the bottom that creates a clamping effect on the console to keep it located in the perfect spot. Then it would be two pieces and maybe 4 screws for install.
Once Varun has the slotting for the throws dialed in we can work on the mounting system.

Just got done modeling the V3 shift plate. Changes included :
- Extended some of the gears so that the shifter doesn't hit the plate when in gear
- Lowered the gate walls for 2,4,6 as they were hitting the shifter in neutral before
- Extended the gate sidewall slants to go all the way down the length of the gate
- Brought reverse closer to first as it was too far out - there's actually so much gearbox slop that I can put both reverse and first into first's gate with my current V2 plate...the horror!
- Added a retainer ring
- Added side tapers to better contour the tunnel
- Updated the inner plate shape to better match the opening

So Greg's V3 came in yesterday, this time in black! Things are looking really good now, I'm able to row through all gears well, though reverse and sixth need some minor modifications so the rod doesn't contact the plate. I'm thinking V4 will have the minor niggles fixed.

Which brings me to the next issue - Greg doesn't have an elige in his shop to test with, so we're looking for a volunteer to test this early plastic prototype to check inter-car compatibility. I'm thinking just one person would suffice for now, criteria being good communication and responsiveness as we try to iterate on this, as well as some diy skills (you'll need to remove your reverse lockout collar and use a threaded collar to keep the reverse cable clamped in the "disabled" position). I can provide instructions, it's not too difficult.

PM me if you're interested

Great work! I've always wanted a car with a gated shifter.

How about cut fibre optics as brushes, leds shining through

Thanks everyone who volunteered! I think we're set for testers now :-)

@h20ham - fiber would be a good way to go if we did go the lighting route, but I'm still not sure if lighting that area would be aesthetically pleasing. The one thing that might be cool to light would be a logo embedded in the plate, or perhaps gear numbers(which the design doesn't have right now). I'm thinking lighting might be something to investigate later on, for now probably best to keep it simple.

It's been almost 18 hours since @Varun916 posted that he's got testers lined up.

I've checked Greg's Racing Parts site, and I don't see where I can order the completed product.

What's taking so long!?!?!?!?

Has it been discussed how this will interact with the OEM reverse lockout? will the reverse cable clear all the gates, or will this preclude the use of the lockout lug? Very much looking forward to the outcome, like others, I have always wanted a gated shifter, but can't justify/afford the usual cost of entry.
