Geely not open to visits

Though enquired to Volvo
I was planning to be in China
After almost 50 years of Volvo and Lotus owning. Thought I wanted to stop in to say hello. Tour of the plant, or just a visit to head office.
I understand the troubles with Christian based Western democracy, in a place like China. As I have visited Asia for 30 years. Further troubles receintly with Canada and our little boy Trudeau still sucking the hinny of Uncle Sam.
The answer

Dear Mr. Smith,

Thank you for contacting Customer Experience Operations.

To be of assistance to you, I have confirmed with our internal contacts and was notified that Geely is not open for visits.

I apologize that this is not the response you were hoping.

Kind Regards,

Customer Experience Operations

China's ambitions are to be scrutinized carefully!!

The world has gotten so used to our generosity that they are all in withdrawal at present.

I have first hand professional experience of China not willing to play by international standards...

1) Theft of all IP product designs ( think powerplants)

2) piracy of Engineering Applications CAD suites.( would just go down to corner and buy as many copies of the latest tools, these tool-sets cost $xx,000 USD a year per seat.

Result?

7 Engineering offices around the world shuttered, thousands of jobs lost, in the US too, 2006 US office alone booked 1bn, and this just one of many Power sector businesses...

The company had to be bought out by a US industrial Giant, who GE whiz is having real issues with their power sector business...

One customer service step Volvo had was the Sweden Delivery program. I am sure people have done this for Lotus for a long time also.
I am sure it has more to do with autonomacy, which vehicles are now.
And China is not, and the world is less and less.

My wife is from Xi’an China, which makes going to China a very different experience then most people will have. Overall the people are very friendly, enjoy meeting foreigners. We’ve visited many cities there, some are what she calls International cities. International cities are accustomed to foreigners, but some cities like her city Xi’an ( population 23 million) almost never see foreigners. Yet everyone there was very nice to me each time I’ve been there. We did go to a smaller industrial city where her father lives and went to stay in a hotel there, we were told since I was a foreigner we would not be allowed to stay. Apparently there was a communist party meeting being held at that hotel and no foreigners were allowed in the building. Luckily we found a nicer bigger hotel down the street that was welcoming to have us.

Ours are just as likely to be the last Lotus sports cars in the traditional mold as they are to represent any kind of baseline from which new popular sports cars are created. Great things may be in the works but we’re likely to know little about the development process and our market may have little influence on directions. It’s anybody’s guess, really.

You're a left alone as long as you utter any negative thing about the great party and its leader, Winnie the Pooh. Did you know that he had all the childrens' books with WtP banned because of the similar appearance? Most Chinese people don't know anything about the gov't and the rest of the world, except for what the Party allows them to know. Internet is 100% restricted, no news that is negative about the gov't is allowed to be disseminated. The common people have to resort to other means to get actual news. They have no idea that China is bullying the surrounding countries and claiming sovereignty thousands of miles away from its own coast, while disregarding international laws.

Her cousin loves Trump, so they do know a few things outside China. She also has a cousin that is in military and worked with British and American troops in Africa. But yes internet is restricted (no porn). I was surprised to learn most Chinese are not communist. You actually need to be accepted into to the party. If your a member then you have to pay dues, like a union. Only the more wealthy and business managers are party members. The love of county there is refreshing, so many people in the US have lost that. The whole country is focused on improving China, leaders work to improve city’s and people’s lives, not play politics 24/7. I could never give up my freedoms, but sad to see our country so unfocused.
