Has anyone else noticed...

... that your new Elise smells like a new boat? It makes sense since it's composite, but I didn't make the connection until I picked it up for the drive home.

That's what my friend said since he's really sensitive to the smell and thinks it smells awful. Me? I noticed the smell, but I didn't think it was gut wrenching. It goes away after a few weeks.

I have a friend who is a real boat nut and he said the same thing as soon as he got in the car. His anecdote from when he picked up a new boat a year or two ago is that the dealer told him to be careful with it since it was just the contents of 55 gallon drums a week ago!

You should smell a TVR! And not even just a brand new one - my 2 yr old Tuscan never lost it's fibreglass canoe factory aroma. I associate that smell with the massive fun I had in that car. I didn't notice the same smell in the Elise - must be much more subtle.

I can take the smell, but, I sure hope my Elise doesn't suck the money out of me as much as my Sea Ray did...

By the way, where's the depth finder??

Dunno about the depth finder, but the Fish-tail finder is under your right foot.

tis true, visited a dealer to see my first Elise up close and personal, opened the engine bay lid and was confronted with the new boat smell, that was exactly what I said outloud to my wife..... smells like a new boat!

Just go out and buy some fiberglass resin and "rescent" your car occasionally!

I owned a 42 sailboat for a couple years. You guys better be careful to keep you Elise's bilge clean and dry, there are worse smells from old boats than from new ones.
