There are several threads on the Lotus Forum, that contain varying information as to U.S. production numbers for the Lotus Elise / Exige from 2005 to 2011. Abe:

Thank you for the response. As for 2005, I obtained the number from a Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance.
Let's see if that number stands up. Even at 3,321 cars, it's a relatively low number as compared to other sports cars, especially given the revolutionary nature of the Elise when introduced in the U.S. with a base price in the low $40k price range!

As for 2009 Lotus Exige 260's, I obtained this figure from the comprehensive Registry of the model by Vishus_1.

Thanks again,

Thanks for putting this together! According to my certificate of Provenance, the '08 Exige numbers are correct. I didn't know 3 of the Cun Racers were Canadian cars. Cool stuff!

Your numbers are correct. My Certificate of Provenance also states 27; 26 US and 1 Canadian.

When the Purist was announced, the projection was for 190 cars. As sales slumped, the reported number produced was closer to 50 I believe. Or it might be that only 50 came to the US.

Dylan:

Thank you. I have virtually no production numbers for 2009 and 2010. I would imagine U.S. Production numbers will come in quite low, given the weak U.S.economy in 2009 to 2011. In fact, overall I am shocked as to how low the numbers have come in across the board, even for the 2005 banner year.

According to my Certificate, there were 244 Elise for the US in 08, of which 167 were SC models. Of the 167 SC models, 4 were in Persian Blue.

While pricey, the certificate is pretty neat. It's data all pulled together by hand. Worth it to me. You can always say your car is rare, but it's another thing to have it in writing. Hopefully, lots of people spring for this so we can build a complete picture. Besides, Lotus probably needs all the money it can get right now anyway...

Update for clarification purposes:

The certificate of provenance specifically reads:

For the USA 2008 Model Year, there were 77 Elise (normally aspirated) and 167 Elise SC models. The following is based on USA market 2008 model year Elise SC only:
-4 cars in Persian Blue
-3 cars in Persian Blue with black leather (the other blue car had biscuit leather)
-1 Persian blue car with sport pack

WERM:

This is exactly the type of information that is most helpful. THANK YOU.

If you could, please let me know which of the following is correct from your Certificate and Letter.

2008:

244 Elise
167 Elise SC

OR

77 Elise
167 Elise SC

It just seems to me that Lotus usually produced more Elise NA's than Elise SC's in a given year, but if I take a literal reading of your message it may not be the case in 2008.

THANK YOU for the great information.

Anyone else have letters and Certificates of Provenance from 2007, 2009 and 2010 for an Elise or an Exige?

First post has been updated thanks to WERM, and have somewhat complete U.S. production numbers for 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011. I still need some numbers for 2007, 2009 and 2010, with the exception of the Exige S260 figures.

Also, corrections are always welcome, and I shall do my best to update as more information comes in.

I believe the 2007 Exige S was around 300 units. Not 100% sure.

total, all in , all done for Eliges, Federal, 2005-2011 = 6500 cars +/- for the US. Not sure i remember where i got the number. Lotus maybe. But, like Abe , i'm pretty sure the 2005 figure is 2500 cars, +/- not 3348. And remember - 10% to 20% have been totalled.

Lotus Elise #134 - S O L D BOE REV400 street car built at BOE in KC. , Stock motor, low boost w/stock cat/mani, 292whp, (5.95 lbs/hp) passes all 50 states emissions/OBD, BOE ST exhaust, ACT HDSS, BOE Clam Hinge, BOE Oil Cooler Relocation, BOE Surge Tank/750cc injectors, BOE Race Links, MWR Rear Lift Kit etc. 0-100 = you bet!

In regards to total U.S. Elise/Exige production from 2005 to 2011, I believe you're correct, as the numbers are approaching 6500 total cars, with an approximate breakdown of 5500 Elise's and 1,000 Exige's.

FWIW, my Certificate of Provenance indicates my car's combination of options was 1 of 50 produced that way and delivered to the US. However there may have been others in CO, just not with the identical options.

From my Certificate of Provenance

"The following is based on the 2006 model year USA market Elise only. The 1st retailed serial number was 0005 (August 2005) and the last serial number was 3027 (July 2006) but the serial number sequence is shared with all Lotus models worldwide, so for clarification the following is based on serial number sequence for the USA market 2006 model year Elise only:
Your car was 797th out of 1079 cars,
Your car was 26th out of 35 cars in Polar Blue,
Your car was the 16th out of 20 cars in Polar Blue with black leather,
Your car was the only one with the same colour/trim/options (there are only 2 in Polar Blue with black leather that had the premium pack, and the other car had traction control)."

06 Polar Blue Elise. Touring pack black leather interior, Race View mirrors, micro mirror, alarm antenna mod, bootie, BOE QS Exhaust, improved stereo, and BOE REV400 supercharger.

Vincesf,

I believe the 244 08MY Elise number would include the California Edition and 60th Anniversary Edition. That would make the 515 unit total high by 90 units. While that does make for some strange math (77 NA Elise of which 50 were California Edition and 40 were 60th Anniversary Editions), I suspect that either the announced numbers were global numbers, or Lotus fell well short of their sales goals.

Also, while we're doing this, can we add the color counts as well...

So far in this thread...

475 Ardent Red 2005 Elise
>475 Saffron Yellow 2005 Elise
35 Polar Blue 2006 Elise
4 Persian Blue 2008 Elise SC

This link to a 2010 article about the Scura suggests Lotus didn't plan to bring any to the US because they hadn't sold all 50 of the 2009 Exige 260's. But it could be referring to total production, too.
