That's exactly what I thought, as 2010 lists a Sky Blue going to Canada and one of unknown color, which could very well be a 2010 Ardent Red Exige S260.

Thanks,

I believe there is Racing Green Metallic (Paint code B119), which is different from Racing Green Mono (Paint code B04) which is a Non-Metallic color.

Good catch. I would only be guessing, but there were 3 preproduction cars for 2006. Perhaps Lotus was attributing them to 2005, and later decided not to attribute the 3 to 2006. Ultimately, the 1,079 Elise's in 2006 do not include the 3 preproduction cars nor do the 3,321 Elise's in 2005.

I believe that you did see a red S260 at Gentry Lane, and also believe it was one of the 8 produced for North America, so I changed the first post in this thread to reflect 7 - MY2010 Ardent Red S260's produced for the U.S. and 1 for Canada. Another mystery solved until someone has information to the contrary.

Thanks again for contributing.

While discussing U.S. production figures, I thought it might be interesting to see the number of Miata's produced for the U.S. from 1990 - 1997. Obviously these numbers represent the other end of the spectrum in high volume sports cars.

I have a thing for red sports cars, and fortunately for me, they made 84,196 red Miata's between 1990 - 1997. I should be able to find a nice one.

i just sold one. I loved my na Miata. Those 1600's were great little motors, they would run and run..... I could not kill my '92, ended up selling it with 350k miles on it for $500. I've seen mint ones, few thousand miles....sweet! Cheap!

Lotus Elise #134 - S O L D BOE REV400 street car built at BOE in KC. , Stock motor, low boost w/stock cat/mani, 292whp, (5.95 lbs/hp) passes all 50 states emissions/OBD, BOE ST exhaust, ACT HDSS, BOE Clam Hinge, BOE Oil Cooler Relocation, BOE Surge Tank/750cc injectors, BOE Race Links, MWR Rear Lift Kit etc. 0-100 = you bet!

I still have a Miata....with a Ford 5.0 V8, rated at 225 hp (feels faster). Weighs in at 2450 pounds, so not quite the power to weight ratio as an Elise SC, but has unbelievable torque.

Miata in the early 1990's was a "game-changer", and I felt the same way about the Elise in 2005. Apparently the public believed the same, given the numbers sold in the U.S. in 2005 / 2006.

Great thread and thanks for the research!

If the Service Parts List is to be believed there are references to USA production for 2009 and 2010 Elise and Exige.

See Page 9: http://www.mylotusgarage.com/catalogs/EliseExige.pdf

"2010 M.Y. Introduction: May 2009 (final 09 cars: Elise 375; Exige 202; 2-Eleven 57; USA Elise 140; Exige 46)"

And

"2011 M.Y. Introduction: March 2010 (final 10 cars: Elise 567; Exige 333; 2-Eleven 35; USA Elise 35; Exige 60)"

Unfortunately for other model years; if production is listed, it does not list a USA breakdown.

THANK YOU.

Not sure of its accuracy, as the 2011 U.S total, as provided by Lotus archivist Andy Graham is 186, and only 95 using this reference, BUT for now it will be the number for 2010. This reference provides a U.S. total of 186 for model year 2010 (140 Elise - with no breakdown of Elise's and Elise SC's and 46 Exige's - with no breakdown of the Exige variants).
If model year 2009 comes in at 200, the total U.S. production of Elise's and Exige's is approximately 6,470.

Almost there... more cert's and letter of provenance please.

Vincesf:

I believe the interpretation is 186 for MY2009 and 95 for MY2010 as the document acknowledges the date a new MY was introduced then provides a listing for the then ended MY. The parts list doesn't provide a figure for 2005-2008 or 2011.

In rereading the information, you are 100% correct. Therefore these numbers were used to update the first post in this thread for overall U.S. Production numbers for 2010. 2009 numbers have been since provided by a Cover Letter from Andy Graham on a 2009 Purist Edition, wherein he stated that 60 normally aspirated and 46 Elise SC's were produced for the U.S. Market in 2009. The figures for 2009 Exige S240's and S260's were also confirmed, totaling 40, so the numbers provided on page 9 of the Elise / Exige Service Parts List of 140 Elises's and 46 Exige's may be total North American numbers.

The final estimated number for all U.S production Elise's and Exige's for Model Years 2005 through 2011 is 6,325.

Thank you to everyone who helped in the completion of this information, and please if you have more information from certificates of vehicle provenance and cover letters, keep them coming.

Well that looks like a great number to start with -
to answer the real question, for me anyway - how many of those cars are left on the road? Maybe 5000? The answer might not be knowable. Thanks for the great thread.

What is your best guess as to how many Elise SCs were sold in the US during the entire production run?

Seems like about 200?!

As we do not have the breakdown for 2009 and 2010, it's a guess, but would estimate it at:

2008: 167, includes 39 - 60th Anniversary Elise SC's
2009: 46, includes 15 Jim Clark Elise SC's
2010: 15
2011: 51, includes 12 Final Edition and 2 RGB Editions.

Total: 279

Some takeaways with the total numbers:

1. While only 3321 Elise's were produced for the 2005 U.S. model year, it represents approximately 52.5% of all U.S. Elise / Exige Production, over a 7 year span.

2. Model year productions approximately halved each succeeding year until the re-styled 2011 model year where U.S. production numbers almost doubled, as compared to the total 2010 model year of only 95 Elise's and Exige's!

3. Exige production represents approximately 17.6 % of all U.S. Elise / Exige production or approximately 36.8% in the years both the Elise and Exige were available in the U.S. from 2006 to 2011.

4. Total U.S. production numbers for Elise's and Exige's were almost equal - 827 (Elise) vs. 780 (Exige) from the model years 2007 through 2011, when the Exige was available with a Supercharger.

5. U.S. Factory Supercharged Elise's available from 2008 to 2011 numbered an estimated 279 vs. 345 Supercharged Exige's over the same period, or 279 estimated Elise's vs. 780 Exige's for all U.S. production Supercharged Elise's and Exige's.

U.S. production Elise's and Exige's are relatively rare vehicles, balanced with adequate production for decent future parts availability.

I worry about parts availability for 2011 specific parts. This is especially true for something like the 2011 clams.

While the 2011 may be rare in the U.S., Lotus continues to make the car for the rest of the World, and everything, right down to nameplates and stickers is available by part number:

http://www.mylotusgarage.com/catalogs/EliseExige.pdf

Granted, parts from Lotus are not available as cheaply, or as readily on the secondary market in the U.S., but they are currently available.

Comparing the volumes at the beginning of this thread with some of the registration info I came across elsewhere , I get the following estimate:

92% 2005 Elise Left
94% 2006 Elise Left
92% 2007 Elise Left
97% 2008 Elise Left

No idea how accurate it is. I assume (but do not know) that the info includes cars with rebuilt titles so the above would be an estimate of "how many are left" and not "how many were totaled" - I think considering that, the estimate seems reasonable.

and could the numbers still change? By that I mean, I had understood that if you supercharged a normally aspirated Elise with the factory SC, then the books at Lotus would be changed to show the car as a factory SC - this was touted as one of the benefits of the factory gear. So, the number of SC's can increase for certain years, if the above is accurate. Albeit marginally (and the corollary is true).
