The only movie I can think of is The Host. It had chrome Evoras (IMDB Link).

With all the recent press, a lot of car people know what an Evora is. However, a couple of funny or unusual comments:

- The typical "Who makes Lotus?"
- How fast does that thing go?
- A kid pulled up next to me and asked where I work (I really should just start saying TGI Friday's... great tips)
- I overhear the usual passing comments like "I think it's a Ferrari/Lamborghini"

This one was interesting. A younger guy--early twenties--pulled up to the gas pump opposite mine in a Lexus sedan. I could see an F-Sport badge, but couldn't see the whole car or any other badging, so I asked, "Nice ride. Is that a GS-F?"

"No, it's an IS"

"Sweet... looks like a great 'round town car."

"Yeah it is, thanks. I love your car... I almost bought a McLaren too, but this Lexus was more practical."

I was so dumbfounded that all I could say was something to the effect of, "Well, maybe you'll find the right McLaren someday."

When people ask the question "How fast does it go?"...answer [just to see the look of confusion on their face]..."Over 1.5 G's in the corner."

About 99% of the time I am asked the two questions:

"How much?" (Gets old explaining that its sub 30k ish and why)

"How do you fit in that thing?" (Every time I get out in the parking lot or gas station, I'm 6'2")

I'm 6'-4" and get that all the time. My answer is that I had to take origami classes before I was allowed to buy it.

First of all, they just want to know how much I paid for it.
Then, I feel obligated to explain that it's an affordable exotic. So my response is "I paid less than $30k". "Brand new they are like $50k", yadda yadda...
I live more in a town so you don't see hardly any exotic cars. I have seen like 2 R8's and 2 Lambos in like 10 years. Like most on here, it's bitter sweet to reveal the actual cost of the cars because it's both impressive that it's such a great value but also a sorta let down that its not a $250k valued supercar (like their initial assumption).

I tell ‘em “you’ll never understand”

My coworkers and i are often on a headset intercom system all day, and while waiting for computers to re-boot etc, we have a shared conversation. My first day driving in my Orange / Black Evora 400 (second day of ownership!) inspired some curiosity. A Corvette-owning coworker asked over the head set:

coworker: So... how much did you pay for that thing?
me: The sticker price was about $95k or so...
coworker: Whoa! Man, for that kind of money - you could have bought a Corvette!

laughter ensues amongst all on headset, though i never asked them who they were laughing at...

I was coming out of Top Dog in Berkeley; Elise was out front. Father and six (?) year old kid are walking by as I get in.

Kid: why’s that car so low? And why’s it so small?

Me: It’s low to help it turn, and it’s small and light to help it turn fast; it’s a racecar.

Kid: ( shaking head ) No it’s not.

Me: ( nodding ) yes, it is.

Kid: if it’s a racecar, then where’s the spoiler?

I died laughing. Thought of explaining the concept of the diffuser and wind effect, then thought of the Exige owners on here who’d likely agree with the kid

Me: have a nice day.

Cmon. He was six years old. He probably still believes in Santa and Easter bunny. He’s not ready yet to be told about spoilers being JDM car ornaments for 99% of buying populace.

Conversely years ago I was jacking up my 92 Mustang GT convertible (6 point roll bar but otherwise 100% bone stock down to the wheels).
While under the car, the local neighborhood boys (6-9 years old) came over exclaiming” Wow! What are you doing to your race car!” They we’re disappointed when I said. “Oil change”.

Sometimes the reality dies hard.

Hey even race cars need oil changes!

Out on a drive today on a mountain road, a truck pulls up to me, the guy rolls down his window, smiles, then says "Bitcoin?"
