if you take up two spaces you are asking for it imo. Does not matter what kind of car the car is. It's the selfish (perceived) attitude that is disliked more than the car. My view would be " Nice car. ******* owner."

Yeah..you nailed it there. I always park out in the back forty but only take up one spot between the lines. I have had people park right next to me but no notes or scratches.

I've parked way out of the way many times since I am very picky about my car's appearance so I want to keep it out of the way of the soccer moms and haters.

One simple question, why do you feel the need to park outside of the parking lines? Do you do it on purpose or you just park that way? No matter where I park, I never take up more than 1 space. That's just a bad move no matter what car you drive.

Seriously. This.

The car invites enough attention as it is - both good and bad. Parking like this only invites more attention - but only the bad kind, never good. Doing that in order to somehow protect your car does the opposite.

Hmmmm. Now, if she said it while wiping brake fluid off her hands with a shop towel, I would definitely be concerned.

I agree that taking two spots invites haters.

I always park far away. When possible I park in a spot that has a curb to one side and keep very close to the curb. That leaves lots of space on the other side to avoid door dings.

+1

except I park as close as possible. Lots of eyes & attention on the car means no one is going to try shady sh*t.

all ages can appreciate Lotus

I was stopping off at the grocery store the other day... in the parking lot I see this father with his infant son in a harness on his chest, a couple bags of groceries in one hand, and his toddler daughter holding his other hand. I offer to help him with the groceries as his hands are pretty full...turns out that he's parked next to my Esprit.
His daughter who looks to be about two years old breaks loose of her father, hugs my car and then says "I want this pretty car daddy" not knowing that it's mine he laughs, looks at me and says "at least she has good taste" he then turns to her and tries to get her back into their car by reasoning with her that the pretty car doesn't have car seats.
I offer my keys and tell him that if he wants he can let his daughter sit in it, he gets this big grin, thinks about it for a second, sighs and then declines saying that it would be that much harder to get her back into their car.

Always makes me smile when somebody can appreciate the Lotus

I was walking out of the gym when I noticed a older guy (about 70 or so) checking out my Evora. He said wow, really nice! What kind of car is that? I said Lotus and he said, oh, yea, I hear Lexus made a fancy sports car. I said, no a Lotus, and he said Lexus? I said, ya, Lexus, since I was not going to convince him otherwse. I got i and drove off with my Lexus/Lotus as he waved.......

In regards to the parking issue... my question is simply this: What do you have to gain by taking up multiple spots?

Here are the scenarios:
1) You park in the boonies and take up 2 spots. No one parks by you and you attract negative attention.
2) You park in the boonies and take up 1 spot. No one parks by you.
3) You park in the boonies and take up 2 spots. The lot fills up and you look like a total *******. People park close to you anyway.
4) You park in the boonies and take up 1 spot. The lot fills up and hopefully the people that end up parking near you respect your car enough not to do anything to it.

At the end of the day, people will have the choice to park right next to you whether you take up 1 spot or 2, so why bother attracting the negative attention with 2? Sure, I took up 6 spots once... in my brother's SL2 Saturn beater that's worth about $250. DGAF what happens there.

Yes, it annoys me when I park way out of the way and someone parks next to me. But I figure if I take one spot, maybe someone just sees a cool car and wants to park next to it. They obviously notice it and (hopefully) respect/like it, therefore won't do anything to it.

I was at the gas pump, putting gas in my Elise.

Let me say that again as its important later.

Epic

I stopped by autozone yesterday to pick up some detailing goodies and as I walk through the door there are four employes huddled up talking. I hear the one guy tell the others "nice car". Then another guy asks me what size engine is in my Elise, so I told him that it was a 2zz four banger. (Now it gets strange) At this point I am two isles over from them and I hear the boss up at the desk telling the others tha "Lotus cars have specific spots to put your feet in them to prevent your feet from touching the ground while driving"..... I about fell out on isle three!

I had the exact same thing happen to me in my Evora. Props for knowing what the Tesla is, but at the same time, how can you not know it's electric if you know what it is?

I had something similar-ish happen.

I had gone out one night and left my **** car down town (took a cab home). In the morning, my lady friend needed dropped off at home, so I naturally had to take the Lotus. We go down town first so that I can move my car out of a towable spot. She opted to stay in the car and I decided to leave her the keys.

I get back, and without realizing how little juice these batteries can actually carry, found out that my car wouldn't start because she let the radio play for those 5 minutes. At 8am, I'm going into a random bar (serving breakfast) asking if anyone has jumper cables. Some guy right outside in a Tundra has them and volunteers to help.

Here's the kicker... he is pulled up by my car and the jumper cables are being connected... and somebody random guy says that he's never seen in the back of a Tesla before.

News to me, I didn't know you could jump start electric vehicles...
