Neither does the 340R, and all the model type names. Not sure why, but every proper (Non-numerical) name begins with an E.

94 Miata. Turbo?

Suggestions for future models; the Ethel - for Hethel; the Egbert; the Ethelred (very Old English); the Englebert; the Ernie; for Greece - the Eros; for the Norse - Eric, with a special colour (you guessed it); etc. Feel free to add.

Eclat
Excel
Etna

It started with the Eleven. It could be confused for roman numerals if written as 11. It just stuck after that.

The numbering system doesn't make much sense either. Some numbers got reused and refer to more than one car. Other times it's not clear if a variant uses the original type number or gets a new one. For example, according to the third edition of The Lotus Book, the 111R is the Type 120. The Federal Elise is supposedly the Type 121.

I am surprised Lotus, or any other car manufacturer has not used "Everest", as it seems to represents the "pinnacle" and the "best". The "Lotus Everest", its got a ring to it !

The dude's never realized that all Lotus models start with "E" and you're picking on his grammar?

Also, it's kind of ironic that you have grammatical errors in each of your sentences.

Legend also was that when the Eleven came out, Chapman liked the way "Lotus Eleven" rolled off his tongue. Therefore every Lotus road car afterwards began with an "E".

The 340R is a variant of the Elise, the 340R tag is based on a hypothetical power weight ratio using a tonne as the base mark.

Ford does the naming rhyme with its trucks. Expedition, Excursion, Explorer, Escape, Edge.

Chevy Corvette, Camaro, Cobalt, Caprice, Colorado, Classic, Cavilier, Celebrity, Corsica, C/K. Sort of flows. Some linguistics person could explain why the ...E... sound flows well after Lotus...
