I'll be happy taking my Elise down to the PCA driver's ed at Homestead race track and showing my old P-car buddies how this little four banger can turn some fast laps! Regarding the suspension, how do they differ?

Thanks again and great job on the board!
Fred
The 111s has about 150bhp where the exige and the federal elise both have 190bhp. The biggest difference though will be the suspension and tyres as the 111s will have been on standard Yokohama road tyres with standard suspension where the Exige will have been on sport suspension with the A048 tyres. Much the same as your sport package. The suspension and tyres will have accounted for most of the difference in the lap times.

The is an ongoing argument in the UK between elise and exige owners as to which is faster if equipped with the same power and suspension. Exige owners cite the downforce (called downfarce by elise owners) and the Elise owners cite the lower drag of the Elise. The S2 Exige only creates 40kg of downfarce but that wing and the wider bodywork increase the drag and it is heavier. The only real conclusion anyone has come to is that they are so close in speed the driver makes more difference than anything else.

By the way I have an S1 elise with 230bhp, Nitron suspension, alloy belled brakes, A038 tyres and so far have not met an Exige that could keep up on track and have kept up with a Lambourghini Gallardo on the road up to 140mph from a standing start when I backed off as we were approaching traffic. My car weighs about 720kg where the Fed elise will weigh about 200kg more.

Let's remember that the 190hp S1 cars probably really don't have 190hp. So, you have more than 40hp more than most Exiges. I hope you are faster!!!

True of standard cars, but there are plenty of tuned Exiges around with a similar power level to my car.

I haven't seen the 330bhp one that had its first track outing a couple of weeks ago and I suspect I would only see that one for a short while before it disappeared into the distance.

Thanks for the offer; either an MPEG (QuickTime can deal with that) or an earlier version of Windows Media Video (anything earlier than v 9.0) would work on a Mac running Mac OS 9.

Until Microsoft or some Mac-savvy hacker can provide a WMV version 9 codec for the Classic Mac OS, I guess we will have to beg.

Good news is I found a tool to convert the files to MPEG for you. The bad news is they're twice the size of the originals coming in at 103 MB for the main review and 24 MB for the Stig run. Any volunteers willing to give me somewhere to post these for our Mac bretheren?

Jim and Randy,

You can't see me, but I am bowing low to both of you... Thanks! BTW, is there a version of that tool I could buy that will run on a Mac? I have asked this question on Mac boards in the past but have never heard a positive answer.

thanks!
The engine is a transplant of the 1.8 turbo engine from Audi. It starts life as 220bhp and then is tuned up from there. Bernard Scouse converted his own car (knowing Bernard almost to see if he could) and there was so much interest that he is now doing it for other people.

http://www.auto-teknix.co.uk/index.htm

There was quite a bit of discussion about this car on Seloc one thread of which has now degenerated into Monty Python quotes.

Apparently it adds about 50kg to the weight of the car, but having been in Bernards 250bhp car the weight is not noticeable as his car and my Honda engined car felt very similar in speed but his was very relaxed and mine is a frenetic scream of high revs and gear changes.

Cool

Randy,

Yay! I found the Members' Forum and your mpg links. Thanks for your time and trouble - to jdw5155 also for converting those files!

[Edit: Both files play perfectly on my Mac. The 2nd is a keeper for me; thanks again!]
