92 year old crashes Toyota Camry into Lotus Dealership

92-year-old crashes Toyota Camry into Lotus dealership

Matt Hardigree
A very senior citizen from Southfield, Michigan pulled the old gas-instead-of-brake trick in her Toyota Camry and sent it barreling through the front window of a speciality European car dealership, crashing right into a $78,000 Lotus Exige. Are Toyotas programmed to destroy exciting cars?

Thankfully, neither the Exige nor the 92-year-old woman were more than minimally damaged. No one is pressing charges against the woman, but the Michigan Secretary of State has been notified there's an old lady running around with a license who inverts the accelerator with the brake.

VIN SCCLHHAC8AHA11491

That is a 2010 Sport 260. Even minimal damage will not be repaired so easily. If any paintwork is needed, they are going to have a fun time masking for the exposed carbon fiber and getting the carbon gray to match (although still new, the texture and metallic flake will be inconsistent).

They really need to give driving tests to people every 20 years or once every 5 years when you turn 70.

I had a client that was about 90 and he was half deaf and half blind. He finally realised that he shouldn't be driving. He called me one day and said he was coming to see me and that his friend was going to drive him. Well, the guy shows up alone and I ask him where his friend is. He tells me that the friend was busy so he drove by himself. However, he said his legs felt weak so he wasn't able to press on the brakes hard enough to stop a few times, so he went through some lights.

After he left, it was lunchtime, but I decided to wait about 15 minutes before leaving to go get something to eat. I didn't want to be in the vicinity in case he was still driving around the area. A few months later the guy moved into his son's house becasue he was going senile. He kept telling he the history of Miami Beach from 1920 until 2000 every time I saw him. I was interesting the first few times, but I dont really care where every single building was and what it turned into over the last 80 years.

I'd say the 260 is totaled. I'll buy it for....lets say $10.000, and I'll even pay to ship it back to Europe

If I die, my biggest fear is that my wife sells all my toys for the price I told her I bought them for...
