Car and Driver: Lightning Lap 2009 VS Lightning Lap 2007

Very weird !

The 2009 Exige S 260 Sport did a lap time of 3 min. 05 seconds

The 2007 Exige S 220 did it in 3 min.04,5 seconds.

The 2007 have been a half second faster.

The 2009 is lighter, more expensive and more powerful but not really faster in practice.

I'm pretty sure the car suffered from heat soak and finally got less power.

It's all driver and conditions - too many variables to make a true comparison. I bet with the same driver on the same day in 2007 with a similar setup, the 260 would have been at a minimum 2-3 seconds faster. I run at VIR a lot and the bigger brakes (carry more speed longer) + higher hp (higher speed on straights) of the 260 would crush the 220 time. Just the BWR supercharger (like in ACE51's car ) is worth 6 or 7 mph of top speed on the front and back straights over a 220.

The adjustable suspension of the 260 could have been less than optimal and the A048s could have had no grip left if the car had more than two previous track days.

Just sayin...

Even if what you said may explain partially the results it clearly show that the difference is not what expected.

discussed ad nausium in other threads if you search. There are further discepencies as well. If I recal the elise sc was much slower than the o5 NA. Further evidence that is really hard to get objective performance data.
