Elise makes Time magazine

The March 22nd issue of Time has a photo of a yellow US spec Elise with hardtop. The text reads: "With acceleration from 0 to 60 in under 5 sec. and a top speed of nearly 150 m.p.h., the two-seat, 190-h.p. Lotus Elise roadster is sleek, sexy...and affordable? When the newest model from the British sports-car maker arrives in U.S showrooms in late May the base sticker price will be $39,985. That's less than half the price of the Lotus currently being sold, the Esprit. With the shift to thrift, Lotus hopes to attract a broader customer base, including women, by competing against sports machines like the Audi TT, Honda S2000 and Porsche Boxster. Lotus thinks it can rev up its U.S. business, now idling at about 125 Esprits, and sell up to 2,400 Elises a year. The Elise has scored in Europe, where the model debuted in 1996. Since then, Lotus has sold almost 20,000 of the congenially priced autos."
Awww gosh, won't we be just darling in our congenial yet sexy Elise as we cross-shop the TT? Now where is that dang cupholder?

There's that mention of 2,400 cars again. Doesn't look good for those way down on the lists.

"Year One" I say buy the Elise in it's first year if you can because the price will probably go up, there will probably be cupholder, vanity mirrors, 19" rims, navigation systems and adjustable pedals for all the Americans that want a "sports car" like the Audi TT or SLK.

I feel lucky to be on the list for the 2005 Elise "Year One" in the US.

Neil

Actually, scratch that... a woman that can pin me is a scary thought.

I don't think so.

I believe that Lotus is limiting sales to one female per dealership just to maintain the proper balance of testosterone vs estrogen required to market a high performance sports car.

Actually, my wife will own mine for the sake of a tax writeoff on her business, but she won't ever drive it (doesn't do manual transmissions). She is looking forward to its arrival - almost as much as me!

Now those would be OneFastTicketSales.

Strange... no A section in my home-delivered Time.

Must be a news-stand thing!

Not to worry... I know what one looks like!

She can't afford to leave me. She makes too much money and wouldn't want to pay alimony! As long as we are married, she gets to decide how we spend most of our money as long as I get the occasional perk (like an Elise).
