Gordon Murray Joins Lotus

Legendary F1 designer Gordon Murray joins Group Lotus - Grapevine - F1 - AUTOSPORT.com

Great news! Gordon is a big proponent of the cars being real drivers cars. Hopefully that will nullify the "DJ whatever" move Danny Made.

LOL. You've just proven how much of a popularity contest Lotus has become. I guess you don't hate Dany any more?

They've been pumping out well-paced press releases to show they're building quite the upper-management & marketing team. Now they just need to follow through with bringing to market great cars that live up to the hype.

If there is anyone that might do well for Lotus its him! I know some guys down here in so cal that built the F1 transaxel for the Mclaren F1 (weisman). They have nothing but great things to say about his vision of motorsports and they are a couple of purists to say the least. Besides do you laugh when Porsche hires someone like him on their board to advance their cause?

I dont hate Dany. I dont agree with the new models look at all! Hiring a DJ....well nuff said.

He didn't exactly "join Lotus", he is a non-paid advisor, which means they get together a couple of times a year to talk shop.

The new owner of RLS is Austin, you can contact him at: Austin0Barrett <<<< @ >>>> gmail <<<< dot >>>> com

What business prowess does he have? I'd like to know. Yes - he's a designer. Not sure what he's done for somebody to want him to be CEO.

Funny that he moved to England 40 years ago hoping to find a job at Lotus.

Colin Chapman was more of an engineer than a businessman and that seemed to help launch a business successful enough to win F1 for the better part of 20 years. Dany most likely should be the Director of Marketing and the CEO should at least have a passion for the product/service. Lotus is a passion driven product, not a mainstream transport. Gordon and Ron Dennis did not have a problem selling out the Mclaren F1 which is all about passion, not all these antics we've been seeing recently that have nothing to do with cars.

He's run a company, and has successfully brought multiple vehicles to market. Both of which are more than Bahar has done. Dany is a marketing guy, and admittedly knows and cares little about the product. I'd rather take an engineer (especially a brilliant one like Murray) to run the company every time.

What company are you referring to when you say he's been running a company?

Gordon Murray Designs? A four-year old consulting company with ~30 employees.

I'd be curious to know how much of the business-side he dipped into at McLaren...

Something like that seems so blatantly obvious, its mind boggling how they have got themselves into their current situation. and more

....Second shrug is about the loose nut behind the wheel for a test driver

My understanding is that the original McLaren F1 was almost entirely his project, and something he talked Ron into doing. But I was mainly referring to his current company. If a VP of marketing is CEO material, then there's no reason Murray shouldn't be. At least he's had to come up with a business plan and make payroll.

Ultimately this is irrelevant- Dany's either going to make this work, or preside over the death of Lotus. Either way, Lotus as we've known it for 60 years is going to be profoundly different. There isn't really much chance of a middle option, except maybe selling the wreckage to Fernandes if the whole thing fails.

so what you are saying is, that right there - is way more than Danny has done!
