Following in the footsteps of police forces in Germany and Italy equipped with Porsche and Lamborghini models respectively, the UK police force has received a luxury, crime-fighting tool of its own, a Lotus Evora.
Priced at £50,000, it boasts a top speed of 168mph which makes it the fastest police car in Britain today. The car is on loan for a two-week trial in the West Midlands and comes complete with police livery, badges and flashing lights.
PC Angus Nairn said: “It's a very quick car and we hope it will prove an effective deterrent to anyone thinking of speeding or trying to outrun us.”
“It has incredible performance yet still does around 30 miles to the gallon. It will attract a lot of attention on the motorways but that is the whole idea - it will remind drivers of the need to keep to their speed limits at all times.”
It is hoped the Lotus will fare better than the specially-adapted Lamborghini Gallardo used by the Italian police force. Capable of 192mph, the car was originally seized from a convicted drug dealer but was later written off when a careless motorist pulled out in front of it.
