Proton Needs To Find Foreign Partner

As reported by Malaysia Press on 4/27/04:

Kuala Lumpur (Dow Jones)-- Proton Holdings Bhd. (5304.KU), Malaysia's national car maker, needs to speed up its search for a foreign strategic partner, the New Strait Times reports.

The newspaper quoted Malaysia's Int'l Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz as saying the foreign partner for Proton should be a major car maker that has access to the latest technology, and can provide significant market access for the national car maker to expand.

"We have lost a lot of time with Proton not being at all responsive to getting foreign partners in the past, even though the Cabinet had decided some years back that Proton should seriously look at this," Rafidah said.
