Rumor - Esprit to get Lexus LFA engine

http://www.insideline.com/lotus/lotu...v10-power.html

This Edmunds article says that the Esprit may get the V10 from the Lexus LFA.

As awesome as this would be, I really don't see it happening. I do not think that Lexus would sell the engine from their halo car. Especially considering that the Lotus would most likely out perform it at a fraction of the cost.

I could see Lotus using the ISF V8. With a Lotus/Cosworth Tune/FI.

I could definitely see it:

1. Toyota would recover some of the development cost by spreading over a greater sales volume.

2. This car is potentially going to cost ~300k. It needs something more exotic than the V8 from the ISF / Lexus LS.

This months motor trend just put an end to the rumor, Lotus cut the ties with Toyota and said they will be using their own engines

It is such a shame that lotus is going to make their own engines. Who here wants a brand new engine built using the least possible ammount of money, and testing. It costs millions and millions of dollars to design a new engine. The kind of money, and capabilities that toyota has, and lotus does not. No longer will lotus be reliable. No longer will there be cheap replacement parts, or upgrades for the engine.

I wont be buying a lotus engine, thats for sure.

It's too bad. I heard an LFA being rev'd up a few weeks ago. It had one of the nicest sounding exhaust notes I've ever heard. I never really liked how Vipers sounded, so I just assumed that all production car V10s sounded crappy, but this thing sounded like a really quiet F1 engine.
