Aftermarket Radiator Thermostat Compatibility

Has anyone heard anything about aftermarket radiators on the Elise not being compatible with OEM thermostats? Any expert knowledge would be appreciated; have a friend who really needs to know. Thanks!

(and yes I tried searching the forum and google)

do you have more information on this?

The radiator is about 6 to 10 feet away from the thermostat, so its not a physical problem.

That would leave heat. I would hope any aftermarket radiator would hold up to the 250ish deg that our car can throw at it.

That aside; I have been running a Wizard radiator for over a year on the same 170deg thermostat that was in the car before the swap. (Yep, I swapped the failed 180deg factory tstat for the 170deg tstat probably close to 3 years ago.)

doug_porsche,

What is the stasis temperature your cars is at with your setup ? I have a similar setup and I rest at 174F. Prior to all my modifications it would rest at 190F

I am honestly not certain if that is good or bad with these engines which shows how ignorant I am sometimes when I start modifying... It runs without a hickup just 16 degrees cooler on average. I assume that is good! I went to a awful amount of trouble getting it there! heh

yep, 172 - 174ish in normal cruise. 180ies when playing on back roads. I have to remind myself that 190 was normal, not hot.
