Poll: Does your Recirculation Button Light Up? Possible cures

My recirculation switch hasnt been lighting up and I saw that others have had the same problem. I ordered a new one, since people have mentioned that they replaced theirs and it solved the problem. but it still did not light up for me.

However, I then took the recirculation button and plugged it into the A/C plug and it lit up. The A/C button which previously worked and lighted up, did not work when I plugged it into the recirculation plug.

So the problem is not with the light in the switch, it is that it is not getting any power from the plug that it goes into.

I checked fuse 15 and it was ok.

So where does the plug get its power from? I heard that it might be from the switch pack, but I dont really want to take the top of the dash off to replace it. Are their any other possible causes now that I know that it isnt in the switch itself?

The problem is most likely in the SPM. However, don't worry about it, just tape off the nose intakes and you will always be using recirculated air.

Figured I would bring back this poll since a few people just mentioned that they had the same problem.

I'm sure if I search I'll get the answer but where are the nose intakes? Do you have to remove the grill to cover it up?

You have to take off the front center grill and they are all they way in the back. There are two holes that have a mesh covering over them. A few pieces of duct tape will cover them up.

The front grill comes out easily, just undo all the clips on the top and pull it forward while lifting the stakes that are holding on part of the bottom section out of the holes.

They are behind the mesh grill. You can't AFAIK get to them in the Exige without removing the front clam.

These instructions are for the Elise. The Exige mesh grill is bonded to the clam and will not come off this way.

Bummer. The clam was off in February.

Are we all as cheap as me? Has anyone taken there car to the dealer to see what is wrong?

Or,the folks that take there car in for all service issues do not read these posts. They let
the dealer take care of it. Much simpler. I just don't like writing checks for something I'm hoping I can do myself.

Switch Pack Module.

Bringing up an old thread. Just happened to my 05 Elise. The recirc light on the button does not work. Could it just be the button itself? I guess I should be driving her more often.

Mine was a bad switch pack relay. I have two switch packs, one the left headlight and recir. button light does not work. On the other the right headlight doesn’t work but thr recir. light does. I have ordered relays and intend to try and repair them. I was able to get the switch pack out without removing the entire dash, just the speedometer pod.
