I really really like the new esprit, it's everything I'd hoped for. The Eterne, just seems wrong for a lotus, it bothers me a little that lotus is trying to compete in an already saturated market of high-end "4 door coupes" (Panamera, Rapide, A7 Sportback), but I will not pass judgement until we see an actual car.

The new elise I take a BIG issue with. It's no longer a targa/roadster, which was one of my favorite things about it. I know that a lot of people on here would prefer it as a soft top convertible but I really hate that, it's less unique and IMHO ugly as -blam!-. I also don't like that the car is becoming softer and more accessible, the elise has always been a stripped down purist car, and I hate to see it become just another sports coupe/convertible for the masses. I understand that the car isn't appealing to everyone, but THAT FACT is what makes it appealing to me and (I think) to many of you.

I'm concerned about:

1) These are only concept cars? Does that mean the design will change (and probably be more watered down to ease production costs)? I thought they were concepts because they didn’t have DOT legal mirrors.

2) How far away are we looking at until these cars are available? 2015 for the new Elise!!?? I, like many people, have a very short attention span. Bring the new Elise out in 2014 and I probably won’t give a @#$% then. I was hoping to get one of these cars in 2011 as a 2012 model but I’m not going to wait four years for one. And, I’m not planning on what I’m going to get in 4 years because you’ll have a lot of new models/redesigns by then. I hope they don’t wait too long because the excitement is going to fade.

2005 Lotus Elise- SOLD 6/9/07
2011 Lotus Evora - SOLD 4/18/13
2011 Lotus Evora S - SOLD - 10/7/14
2014 Lotus Evora S IPS - SOLD 2/13/16

I gather that the 2015 Elise signals a 'do-over' relative to any S3 work that may have taken place to date. I think it's pretty clear that the new crew in charge doesn't like much of what was already in place. I think the only car in this line up that represents any completed work would have to be the Esprit. The rest are pretty blue-sky, and out there to gather feedback. I think they realistically can develop 2, maaaaaybe 3 cars in parallel, so they're looking to see what 2 or 3 it will be.

Because of this Porsche did a redesign of the 911 front end and the 996 variation is the least desireable albeit a good car. The 997 looks so much better that they went back to a more traditional and favorite look of the 993.

Well lets fast forward and you canít argue their growth both in sales and brand equity.

I think they are on the right track to increase the brand globally and most importantly anchor their dealer network.

Oh come on! Of course they'll make an Exige. Stiffer dampers, change the wheels, add a big wing, and add 5K to the price. Easy money!

give it a year or so after release, (2016?) and perhaps they'll come out with a stripped down Elise, with a big rear wing and aero-bits for more downforce, that might be rebadged as Exige?

Personally, I think even though the originality is not there like current models, they are amazing head turners.. I wouldn't mind driving or being seen in any of them... Yes the design elements are similar to other cars, the cars themselves are still FRESH from Lotus. How can you not want any of these? The level of attention you'd get (if you like that sort of thing) on the road.. I'm experiencing this very thing right now with the Evora.

Sorry, I think they're boring, look alike, and unoriginal. I won't be buying any of them if these are the final products. There's no beauty in them like an R8, F430, or Gallardo has. They're just not comparable...at all.

I got to agree with you on this one... Im in the market for a new car in the next year and the Elan fits my budget... but i dont know if I want to wait till 2013 to get one... There are alot of other nice cars in that price range that i like (like the DB9) which are available even now...

So I had read that the new Esprit was going to use many of the same underpinnings as the Evora (front and mid modules, brakes etc). I wonder if that is still the case, and if any of the other new cars share it as well? 5 new cars from the ground up with no shared basis sounds like a lot of work!

Every successful sports car manufacturer needs a base model that appeals to the masses and sells in a higher volume to support all of the higher end/special editions that sell in small quantities and might even lose money. Maybe you dont like the new Elise concept, but I bet the masses will feel differently. You'll get your purist Exige at some point, it will be louder, lighter, more powerful, but it will be because the new Elise will be making $$$ for Lotus to do such things.

i don't get the logic in dumping a 1/2 dozen prototype show cars from out of nowhere into paris. whats the strategy here? my only guess is danny and company need (want) more money, so they are throwing out this shotgun approach to future product with no direction or vision. hoping that "something" will gain traction and generate buzz for them to leverage proton with, or... they know proton is on its way out and they are building a house of cards to take to market?

anyways.. no overly impressed with the styling, i do like the elite and elan showcars as GT's though. hate the elise show car, and luke warm about the esprit show car... nothing is production ready so does it even matter? i was realy hoping to see and hear more about real future product, not a mish mash of posibilities. kinda bummed lotus hybrid technology did not make it front and center.

"I really started paying attention to cars was when they came out with the Nissan Z, the first body. Then I seen the Cherokees, the old square ones, and I was like, ďWow, thatís cool.Ē Then I seen the Isuzu jeeps and I seen the Wranglers."
