Is that big red button for the ejection seat?

Curious ergonomics, that the passenger can elect to eject himself out of the car...usually that would be the driver's decision.

hmm.. the CGI looks nice but there's some obvious omissions.. there's no radio or AC controls. The pass arm rest is the same as the drivers - everybody can adjust the mirrors! Lots of buttons that even if labeled won't be easy to use. If they're going upscale, then they need to appeal to old people. I'm not saying go buick with the styling, but some reasonable middleground.

Hi my name is: A Boring Bloated Asian Idea of British Style (soon to be overpriced) "Supercar" (even though there is nothing super about me) wearing a Historic Badge and Model Name that I don't deserve.

We hate what Lotus is about to become!!!! Shame on the new Mgmt., Collin would fire all of you!

Guess the family is buying our Spyker C8 and Audi R8 in 2011 since we don't have his' and her's Esprits to purchase in the future!

You guys keep saying these new designs look asian. Show me an asian designed car that is 1/10th this good looking.

Sold Lotus, bought 911C4S. The Lotus didn't do too well in the snow.

I will say though, the new esprit renderings look better than any recent offering from lamborghini.

For some reason all the new cars look the same to me, that one car looks good though! Still don't like the new direction.

That's a beautiful pic of the 2000gt too.

It sure is.

And I like this new Esprit, quite a bit...I'm very excited for it.

the interior needs a lot of work.. pretty lame right now, i am sure they will get it right for production though... along with the front end... i hope!

There IS one... And still, its not original. There were many other cars that had this look before the 2000GT did.

really? i m very impressed with the styling execution of the recent lamborghini. the gallardo is "perfect" as it were. just spot on balance, theme, detailing. and thats a quite old design.

i have never liked the diablo.. but the murcialago is very well done as well. the proportions are just too big, but they really hide it very well, just clean and elegant.

the concepts are little busy, but i like the themes they are working with and confidant they will get it right based on the above.

i like the revention - on the bigger chassis you need those hard lines to keep from becoming an egg. which is why i think they did such a good job on the murcialago.

Not sure who you are arguing with. I agree, the new Lotus screams lambo.. I just had a problem with calling it all asian looking design. Its not... At all.

lookin asian.. lookin lambo.. lookin whatever.. if you look hard enough you can see design influences galore from whatever era of car you choose..

c'mon guys give me a break. yes it has influences from past designs. but WHAT CAR DOESN'T??! All in all those design elements come together to create a different car than what I've seen. Unless of course you're blind to details, big and small. If you consider them, than the new Lotuses (in their entirety) are rather--dare I say-- original.

Look, maybe I'm wrong.. But post some pics then, and I'm not talking just the front or just the rear. Give me a side by side that is undoubtedly similar. Words aren't as convincing as pictures.

Example:

See? Now those cars are undeniably similar in their general placement of features and general shape. But if you consider the details, they make the Mazda2 look considerably better than the Fiesta. It has a lower stance. Fenders are more prominent (has shoulders so to speak) giving it a more aggressive stance. The gaping front grill helps also. It just appears longer and sleeker. It's those little details that make the car look so much better..

OK here is my 2cents.....
Everybody is bitching about.. it looks like a lambo,F car and so on
First point, not bad company to be compared to
Second, I think the real problem here is that the Esprit went out of production
in 03-04 and terminated the evolution of the Esprit.
I believe that if you look very hard at these cars that are out that we are all comparing the new Esprit to, we will find that if the Esprit was allowed to progress another 6 years that the design would probably look very similar to
what we see now on the Paris floor.
On that note I will say I think Lambo, Ferrari and others took some cues from the Esprit and put them into production, Lotus did not have this luxury.
So I say the Gallardo looks like what a 2008 Esprit would have if given the chance.
Finally, quit bitching about the new Esprit... All of us have no choice or say in the matter of what the final car will look like. As Lotus lovers we should embrace it and be proud of the brand we are all so passionate about.
Its a great looking car and I bet in person it is unbelievable.
....Steps off soap box...LOL

Mike

**Side Note** if they took a little of the pointy nose and kept the front end lines from the 04 Esprit, there would be no doubt that this is a Lotus Esprit***
