Wow - just read this in the sector 111 email I just got - is this for real? Even for a second owner?

I searched on 07 Elise. Here's the result:

Summary:
LOTUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ELISE AND EXIGE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 1, 2004, THROUGH NOVEMBER 30, 2006. THE OIL COOLER LINE MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM ITS FITTING.
Consequence:
A DETACHED OIL LINE COULD SPRAY OIL ON A TIRE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH, OR IT COULD SPRAY OIL THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.
Remedy:
LOTUS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT LOTUS AT 1-800-245-6887.
Notes:
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

I just called the number you posted for Lotus Cars USA, they asked me to send them an email with my VIN and contact info. They said they will get back to me after they figure out how they are going to be handling the recall. I'd be happy with a "factory solution" of pulling both coolers and ALL that oil line, and installing a self contained "all in the engine bay" solution. Although that would knock 100 pounds off the cars weight? Mostly from the front? (Making the car lighter is a BAD thing... joking of course.) Maybe we'll hear from them one day.

For people who have performed upgrades in the engine compartment (rev400 comes to mind with an additional radiator in the engine area for air/water intercooler), they may have problems shoehorning another cooler in the engine compartment. I would be happy with improved connectors on the oil coolers, and leave them where they are.

This couldn't have happened at a better time for me. Today I had oil cooler line failure!

I got into my 06 Elise today after my normal walk around. Nothing seemed wrong at the time. Tires looked good no fluids on the ground under the car. I started up and drove off. I was about 1/2 a block away when the little red check oil light came on. Sh*t! I knew instantly what was wrong since I just checked my oil level after my last fill up so it had to be oil cooler line failure. I turned around right away and gingerly drove the car back home. Once home I opened the boot and checked the oil. After I cleaned the dipstick and checked it the dipstick was bone dry. I looked under the car and sure enough puddles of oil were forming under the car. I have just over 37,000 miles on it.

I will be calling Lotus about this Monday to see if I can get the recall repair done ASAP.

My 2005 Elise started leaking oil all over the front wheel from the oil cooler last month. It's been parked ever since while I wait for the recall to actually happen. Lotus US suggested that I contact EuroMotorcars, their new DC-area Lotus dealership. Everyone I've talked to at EuroMotorcars has been very helpful and professional. They are going to contact me as soon as they get the details on the recall.

wow - this makes me wonder - is anyone from FVMC (Chicago Area) following up on this with owners from that manufacturing date?

YEAR 2005-2007 ELISE AND EXIGE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 1, 2004, THROUGH NOVEMBER 30, 2006.

I think mine falls right in the middle of that range.

Yea maybe if they'd come up with an answer..... If I paid the 50-60k for my Elise new and they treated me like this I'd be more pissed.

I'm sure alot of their lines in cars r bunk, but they just got caught for a few model years.

Didnt think lotus could actually make Swizzy look bad. Thought it be the other way around.. Hey Swizzy is your lotus leaking??

If brute force is not working you're not using enough.

Just talked to my dealer, Lotus of Jacksonville and was told there is no recall as yet.

Called the 800 Lotus number and no one there; left word.

Best regards to all,

Leo

I just tried to call the 800 number and it says "The number you have dialed is unavailable from your calling area". Huh? Anyone have a real, non-toll free US telephone number for Lotus?

Ok, I found the NHTSA sight data! Here it is. The 800 number is the one from the first post, so that does not work. I am going to email Lotus in the UK about this and see who in the US we are supposed to talk to.

EuroMotorcars in Bethesda is the new factory dealer in the Washington DC area. Jamie Gershowitz was very helpful in my effort to get a duplicate Elise key made after I locked mine in the trunk.
