Lotus oil cooler line recall is being EXPANDED

Sorry if this is a repost. I didn't see a thread.

Apparently, Lotus is expanding the recall to include 95 more cars. (2006 & 2007 Elises and Exiges)

Anyone know what the new VIN cutoff is?..

I wonder what happens if your line breaks after you receive the letter and before you bring the car to the dealer. Say you wait 6 months and oil line failure takes down the engine. Will Lotus be replacing engines forever?

It's official... 2007 & some 2008 Exiges added to the list...

Recall Alert: 2007-08 Lotus Elise and Exige - KickingTires

Quote:

Lotus is recalling 451 model-year 2007-08 versions of the Exige and Elise sports cars due to problems with the oil cooler line, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is an expansion of an earlier recall.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from Dec. 1, 2006, through Oct. 31, 2007 (check your vehicle's build date on a sticker on the driver-side doorjamb), and have an oil cooler line that could become detached. If this happens, oil could be sprayed in the engine compartment and on the tires, increasing the risk of a fire and a crash.

Lotus will start notifying owners on March 4, 2013, and dealers will inspect and replace the affected parts for free. Owners can call Lotus at 800-245-6887 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more information.

Yeah, I am in Australia and they are trying to deny me the recall on my 2007 Exige. If my lines pop, i'm suing the buggers !

Has Lotus done anything with the previous cars if the line didn't pop off and lunch the engine? Are they replacing the lines with something any better? My car now falls under this. I removed the sandwich and run just a filter now, but have left all the lines in place, so could certainly go back to the stock configuration. I only had a little weeping starting up near the oil cooler.

Where abouts/who with Brian? Our cars are the same year, I should probably enquire somewhere.

The response from Lotus Cars USA: Your car "was manufactured using oil cooler hoses from a supplier that we have not suffered any issues with and hence are not affected by or included in this recall."

They have done the same to me. I'm in Alaska. They said take it to a dealer (3000 miles away) or tough ****, warranty denied. I just took the sandwich plate out and don't use the coolers.

So how is running your car without oil coolers working to this point. Not sure if I would do that??????Considering I'm to far from a dealer as well and Lotus is not supporting us that need to self-install due to distance, I wondered myself if installing one right or left from Sector111 would be sufficient for cooling. Especially since I live in the central US and it gets warm.

I've been running just the filter for over a year and probably 3k miles. No issues. I don't have any extra gauges so can't tell you what it was before or is now. I don't track my car. I like the idea of no lines to blow and higher pressure getting to the cams.

Like mentioned above, call the dealer and give them your VIN. They should be able to tell. My 2007 Exige S blew the line on the freeway and I called and they ask for my VIN and said I was covered (whew)!

Looks like there is another updated recall, to include Exige S.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Recalls
Recall Number
14V280000

Recall Date
05/27/2014

Component

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Summary
Lotus Cars USA, Inc. (Lotus) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Elise and Exige vehicles manufactured from November 2007 to July 2011, and 2011 Evora vehicles manufactured September 2010 through September 2011. The oil cooler hose may detach from its fitting.

Consequence
A detached oil hose could spray oil on a tire, increasing the risk of a crash, or it could spray oil throughout the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire.

What Owners Should Do
Lotus will notify owners, and dealers will replace the oil cooler hose fittings on the Elise and Exige vehicles and will replace the oil cooler hose assemblies on the Evora vehicles, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Lotus at 1-800-245-6887. Lotus' number for this recall is 201401R (Elise/Exige), and 2014/02R (Evora). Note: This recall is an expansion of recalls 11V-510 and 13V-041.

I thought that in the end there was a recall on every North American Elige. Certainly my 2009 Elise was recalled.

Anyone on here had their 2011 Evora lines fixed under this recall? I have not received a letter. I did for my Elise and had those replaced. They also replaced the oil coolers as the connectors were seized.
