Feedback Requested: S2 Open Center Console

We have started work on a center console to shows portions of our shiftR111 or even the stock shifter. Here is a design that shows the general direction we are headed in. We took inspiration from the Lotus console found on the current S3 cars.

Shinoo, I like the concept of the open design showing off the new shift linkage system. I want you to go further and have the entire front section visible. Would plexiglass be a good candidate for the front section?

By the way thanks for the tour of the shop facilities this afternoon. The new shift linkage is a beautiful piece of work, too pretty to be hidden away.

I think there are 50+ other viewers that left without commenting, like I did previously.

Will it feel more quality than the stock part? Cause that thing disappoints

Nice as long as the price is in reason. Color options for the front section would be nice too!

That would be me as well. This will not work for my setup but I do like the concept, so I'd vote for moving forward but I will not actually buy one (unless I someday own a second Elige).

@shinoo - I like the shape . . . I'd probably buy one, especially if it were narrower than the OEM part to clear the passenger seat. I'd want black leather on the body, but I could paint the cap to match my body color. It's hard to tell from the drawing - are you leaving an open area where the shift lever exits the top or is there some kind of boot?

Thx for the feedback. Keep them coming!

Some comments I can make:
-We have not decided on color or finishing options. This will be last and will probably be flexible enough to give people the choice to finish it the way they want
-We want it to fit over the stock and shiftR111 mechanisms. We won't likely be able to make it narrower
-It will be open enough to showcase our shiftR111
-Price is trying to be kept low - but tooling and volume will put us under some stress. I have a couple of ideas that may help.
-Initially this will be LHD option only.
-The opening for the lever can be left open but also we are looking to accommodate the stock shift boot
-It is still early enough that we can tweak - so your feedback is appreciated!

I've been looking at the S3 shifters and consoles - and I love the idea of having an alternative available when I start tinkering with my interior next year.

As for the design, I would like to see the transition between the two pieces to be flush with each other, instead of the front colored section being slightly higher and extending more forward or the colored bit extends always down to the floor

@shinoo I LOVE this idea. I’ve been mentally trying to figure out how to do this for whenever I order the shift111R kit.

A few thoughts...I’m ok with the top assembly being higher than everything else depending on the transition to the area by the hand brake. I assume that transition would be solid like on the S3 and not have an opening.
I’d love it even more if the side openings could be made even bigger 🙂
I agree with a previous poster - allow us to not use a shift boot and still have it look like a finished piece.
I’d almost say make the finished piece able to be wrapped in leather or be painted. buyers won’t be paying extra for paint or leather color they don’t want, then have to remove it to have the correct color applied.

Love the idea and glad you guys are working on this!!

I just wish the shifter was developed to work under the stock consol cover. :*(

I like the concept and I'd probably buy one. Just make sure the opening for the stick is large enough to accommodate longish throws (LETSLA on the longest throw settings) and there's plenty of clearance for the handbrake. Overall, "less is more"!

Granted I don’t have one, but InoKinetic’s website says that it “works with factory cables**, center console and hand brake”

I like the overall design, and I like the two tone concept and I'm fine with the two separate pieces idea. I'd probably like the base wrapped in leather...and then maybe accent the top piece with a color, aluminum, or alcantara.

I'm not sure, but he possibilities are kind of endless and you can go nuts trying to satisfy everyone. You might want to offer up a lower cost unfinished version that can be customized

I don't need as much space for the buttons. And while this may be considered blasphemy to the lotus gods; I think an integrated cup holder would be sweet. I know there was a guy that was taking the stock console and adding a cup holder up front and leather wrapping it for people.

I would not buy one as I am happy with the stock setup.

But I would suggest that it would not be so "open" that things could get caught in there. I can imagine someday someone getting a finger wedged in there.

Yes, it is designed to work with the stock center console. We have had some guys with leather covered consoles that have had some difficulties. And we have some creative guys like this client in Japan...
