Anyone interested in slot cars?

Largely a hobby of my generation (boomers), was wondering if folks here have or do dabble with slot cars at all. I know there have been threads on this in the past, thought I'd bring it up again.

I'm part of a club of largely car guys (current past cars owned by members include Lotus, Aston Martin, Jag, Vettes, Corvair Monza, Miata, BMW, Porsche, Audi, etc., with a smattering of nice motorcycles) who race 1/32 scale slot cars on our home tracks. We range from blue collar to a pharmacist, a couple lawyers, a judge, a doctor, etc.

With one exception, our tracks are routed wood, 3 to 4 lanes, and we race semi formally once a month between October and June. Over the Spring/Summer/early Fall 1:1 scale cars take priority. Oh yeah, and families too.

We're a good group of car fanatics who also happen to play with toy cars in our basements. If you're in the mid-atlantic area and would like to know more, drop me a line at [email protected] (I rarely check my LT messages).

BTW...there are plenty of Lotus slot cars available these days.

I have a 1/32nd track but its so big I can't set it up anywhere in my house. Once in a while I will set it up in the garage. Takes up most of the garage. I have NASCARs but would love to pick up some Lotus cars. My track is 2 lane and plastic at the moment. If I had some where I could set it up more often I might get a little more involved.

I am curious as to what brands of slot cars you prefer. They seem to run some where from $30 to $60 and up depending. I had never heard of Scalextric till I started looking for some Lotus slot cars. Since I had only been dabbling in this scale and not really doing much I don't want to jump and buy cruddy stuff.

After spending time on their web site those guys are far more into slot cars than I am. Some of those tracks were amazing. I also find it crazy that that have a race season etc. I wouldn't have time for something like that till I retire. I may look into buying a new track though as the one I have can only be set up one way which takes up a 2 bay garage. I did see some cars that for me are probably fine. I am not going to be on the level those guys are probably ever. My track is more so my grandkids and I can mess around.

I see via another post that you've been to our site. Two of our classes are 'stock:' Carerra GT and Slot It Group C. Relatively evenly matched cars. The Carerra cars are in the mid $30 range, the slot its $45 to $60.

The other two classes allow taking a 'legal' car off the shelf, or building one, depending on one's level of interest.
