Big Slot Car fan

Been running slots since I was a kid, got back into the hoby about 6 years ago.

I run Scaley analog track and cars. A few Carreras, lots of Fly cars, a few Slot-Its and odd manufacturers.

Great fun, good group of guys I met in the hobby. I highly recommend it for family and friends.

Here are a few pics of my layout. Custom designed track, taken mostly from Catalunya.

Regards,
Wayne

slot racing club

We've got a 1/32 scale slot racing club that runs on home tracks in North. Va, DC, MD, WVA, and PA.

Most of the tracks are 3 or 4 lane, routed in mdf board. Full computer controlled race management systems. Still a couple 4 lane plastic (Ninco, Carrera) tracks in the group.

At a typical race 20+ guys, out of a total group of 40+, will show up.

Great and varied group: Mechanical engineer, attorney for the VA, medical consultant, teacher, bankers, doctor, electrician, social worker, etc., etc.

All are car guys in one way shape or form. Many have lots of track time in 1:1 scale club racing, not just HPDE's. Lots of interesting cars and bikes owned by the folks.

In the middle of a points season now. Each race usually has one or two new guys, somebody always has class appropriate loaner cars for visitors.

I personally collect vintage slots from the 60's and 70's, at the peak of my collection had 700+, all in excellent restored or 'closet find' shape, with some vintage new in box. Sold most of the collection off a few years ago to fund another hobby, and now collect almost exclusively Lotus slot cars, but pick up others as bargains present themselves.

Some serious Lotus collectible slots are (collectible if in good, unbroken, complete condition, that is):
1/24 Cox Lotus 30/40
1/24 Monogram Lotus 38
1/32 Strombecker Lotus 38
1/24 Scalextric Indy Racer(one of the rarest in the US, it's a Lotus 38 but at the time chapman had pulled Scalex's right to use the name Lotus. A complete but lightly used on will bring well over $1000.00).
1/24 Auto World Brass Lotus 29.
1/32 Monogram Lotus 33. A well assembled complete car is one of the nicest slots ever made.

Less collectible from a rarity perspective, but nice to own:
1/32 Polistil Lotus Europa
1/32 and 1/24 Strombecker Lotus 30
1/32 Strombecker Lotus 19
1/24 Strombecker Lotus 29
1/24 Revell Lotus 23
1/24 Russkit Lotus 40
1/43 Cragstan Lotus Elan +2
1/24 Atlas Lotus 30
1/24 Tamiya Lotus 30

Anybody in the Mid Atlantic interested in trying out this hobby from a friendly competitive perspective, PM me.

Bumping: Any slot car fans?

Requisite 'every few years' bump gauging interest in slot cars.

These days you can buy off the shelf current/recently manufactured Lotus slot cars: Exige (S2 and V6), Evoras, 7's (Caterham and Lotus), Cortinas, a variety of current and vintage F1 cars, even the relatively recent Lotus/JPS liveried Lola LMP car. If one is a builder, resin and vac formed bodies are available to build Elise, Europa, Elan, Elite, Eclat, Esprit and older race cars.

Fun way to spend the winter if you live where you have to put your car away for a few months.
