Thumbs up How to fix photobucket image problem

Couldn't find any posts in search already covering this, so thought I would share.

Annoyed by those damn p500 photobucket images not showing the pictures they should in threads? There's a FIX!

Using Chrome you can download from the webstore Photobucket Hotlink Fixer. Once loaded all those annoying photobucket error message are replaced with the actual picture.

I will have to give that a try. I have years of photos in photobucket, I want to stop using photobucket altogether. A little upset that they did this after I had been using them for over 15 years. Do I have backups? Yes but they are spread over many removable hard drives.

I can't believe people even use Photobucket, I just laugh every time I see it. Like, how about some Hotmail, or Yahoo crap as well. What year is this again?? Get Flickr and Gmail and be done with it. Clean, fast, and beautiful.

people use photobucket because it was a completely viable online image storage site.

one rarely moves images because the new best thing comes along

most forums have decent image upload now, as opposed to 5 years ago, so going forward it serves no purpose

for firefox, have not tried it yet

I just looked at the Firefox add-on. It requires me to grant permission to "access your data for all websites." ??? I don't think so.

2013 Boxster S 981

The extension doesn't access to your data on the websites, neither to the users nor passwords. It needs the permissions to access the urls to detect photobucket links and fix the request to keep the images working as before.

most firefox addons are vetted

Sorry, let me translate for you. Photobucket is trash, use Flickr, or smugmug. Hope that meets your approval .

Why do you think Flickr or smugmug won't go the same way in the future?

Not to over complicate this, but a couple options:

Use a browser you don't normally use (like Chrome) for plugins like this. Don't log in to the browser, or use incognito mode.

Use a virtual machine with VMware Player, load up whatever questionable plugins you want and know they won't impact your real accounts. This is my go to for sketchy sites.

The Chrome plugin worked for me, very handy.

Paying users. Much like this board, Photobucket had few paying users, just a bunch of trash ads, so when the traffic died...so did the host. Flickr and smugmug are much larger companies, and have a much more user-pay base, especially smugmug, which a lot of professionals (including myself) use for printing. Not saying they both couldn't go under, but the probability compared to PhotoTrashBucket is nil.

Also, the image clarity of PhotoTrashBucket was just horrible, along with how hard it was to get anything done there (even to save a picture was hard), so I'm surprised it lasted this long. I mean, how bad do you have to make it before it finally dies? Apparently pretty fvcking bad.
