Ive never had such a horrible engine since my jaguar. Audi 3.2
So the great thing about timing chains is that they wear a really long time. Then mercedes or whoever was first decided to run obnoxiousley long ones and use tensioners..... Lessons were learned and the timing belt scene got big except people kept blowing belts due to their own stupidity. Then years after audi had been pretty much all belt we saw chains for the VVT... Ok I get that. But then came the FSI and with the FSI some backwards thinking. Could the belt not take some ammount of force? I dunno. But I am parting out my A6 due to... Oil leaks... Possible bent valves. Possible because I never could get the thing timed 100% and the last time I went to re time it this happened.. the final straw: The brand new chain tensioner collapsed during cranking the chain jumped and the cam stayed still for 20* and the valves probably said hello to the piston causing it to not crank. I checked retimed and she ran rough... Retimed again this time perfect I used a wrench as a temporary tensioner while cranking and the same poor running... I can only imagine this was cause by the pressure loss in the tensioner. the oil leak is suprisingly unrelated. I can explain that but dont care to. But man what a SOB. I used to love audi's and that is because I have had a ton of them and never had an issue I didnt cause usually in the form of an off during a race. But this engine sucks. To show its not all bad the lotus I have uses the same timing system as the older audis down to the same looking cam wheels. Other posative note I now have all the connectors I needed to put my haltech in along with a nice new coolant resivor as mines rusted. Also on part out I realized why the interior was so good. Same fastener system and connectors they have used for over 20 years. No kidding the stuff came right apart and all looked new.. My engine looks like it went to war and lost.
Mod's: BPV capsule & throttle jack delete with all the vac lines shortened to the source and capped.
