North Carolina trip

My wife and I visited some relatives in North Carolina last weekend. We also managed to see some other sites along the way.

1) A lookout on interstate 79 in West Virginia
2) The bridge at New River Gorge, West Virginia
3) In front of my cousin's house near Raleigh
4) Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University
5) Fort Raleigh

Some more pictures

1) In front of the Neptune statue at Virginia Beach
2) Inside the Steamtown Museum in Scranton, PA
3) In front of the PA Paper building in Scranton, PA

The building shown in picture 3 appears briefly during the opening credits of the sitcom "The Office". It is called "Penn Paper" in the credits.

Cirque Du Soleil

I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience yesterday! My wife and I went to see a Cirque Du Soleil show December 29 in Toronto. We have seen 5 or 6 of their Toronto shows and two of their Las Vegas shows. Their shows are always amazing.

This time was different however. We were sitting in the first row at floor level. Part way through the show they selected four audience members to join them on-stage for a comedy act. I was one of those selected. I'd always thought that anyone they picked from the audience was in fact a cast member that had been planted so I was really surprised.

Once up on stage I was given a hat and a yellow flower and told to stand near a door frame that was in the middle of the stage. For a minute or two the other three volunteers were fairly active doing things but I was idle.

I began to think about my beloved leg trick. I thought that I should try it on stage since this opportunity would never come again. I was wearing winter boots at the time which makes my leg trick very difficult so I quietly removed them. When the clown character signalled me to come through the doorway I did so. Then the clown character shot me in a mock execution. I put down my hat and flower and did my leg trick. I even added a 360 degree pirouette, hopping on one foot while keeping the pose. The second time the clown shot me I hit the floor.

After all the excitement I was left thinking that if I died tomorrow, my life was complete.

Now is anyone going to believe me without pictures? Probably not. But my wife was there and was my witness. Below at least are pictures of our front row tickets.

Ha ha! Awesome and congrats! It's like everything you've done in life, everything you've learned all lead up to that one moment and you shined!

You get any weird looks from the clown?

'05. Eyes up.

I was concentrating so much on my trick that I didn't really look at the clown nor even think about the audience reaction.

My wife said that the audience really only clapped at the end of the entire routine when all of us were bowing.

The clown though did wave to me at the end of the night as the performers were leaving the stage.

It turns out that a woman at my work was at the Dec 29 Cirque Du Soleil show and actually saw me on stage. She sent me this email.

To: David Craig
Subject: Nice trick

As soon as you got on stage I knew you were going to do the trick. Very cool

My birthday

I just turned 54.

To prove that I am not yet over the hill I performed my leg trick while wearing my Canada hat. Enjoy.

Casa Loma

If you are ever in Toronto it is worth visiting Casa Loma. It is a 180,000 square foot castle that was built around 1920. The owner eventually fell upon hard times and lost ownership of the castle. It is now a popular tourist site.

The first leg photo was taken in front of the castle entrance. The other one was taken in the gardens behind the castle.

I have never seen someone have so much dedication to making sure their fly was up all the way. Never an embarrasing moment.

My hair is thinning out too so I have to be careful to comb it "just" the right way before each photo-op. I'm starting to feel some empathy for Donald Trump.
