US edition of "Top Gear" called "Gear"

Not sure if its a re-post but there will soon be a US version of "Top Gear". Jeremy will not be the host which is a good thing. I'm only watching Fifth Gear and avoid Top Gear because of him.

i heard that "Gear" was just the working title. after shooting the pilot, i believe the producers have agreed on using "Gayer." i could be wrong, though.

I think you'll find the prevailing opinion here is much the opposite...

Yep this has been discussed elsewhere, but I don't remember where....

I'm glad the US version (which is already at a disadvantage because it's a "mee toooo" type of show) doesn't have Jeremy aboard, but for a different reason I suspect.

Jeremy and the Stig are the main reasons to watch Top Gear Many of us here think that the US version of "Top Gear" is going to blow chunks.

Blasphemy! Sacrilege! Heresy!

If it weren't for the fantastically clashing personalities of Clarkson, Mays, and Hammond, and their complete lack of respect for the products they are reviewing, I would have no reason to watch.

You just wait, the American version will be hosted by Bob Saget, Tim Allen, and Ryan Seacrest, will be a complete advertising shill, and probably will be about as interesting and irreverent as Motor Trend TV or Truck Universe!

Give it a season and it'll be called "cancelled."

I just really hope it has a European edge. We already have the "Power Block" with Motorweek or MotorTrend TV. It's pretty lame...

I hope they maintain their core focus and test all cars. And I sure as hell hope that it is not a big ass advertising campaign for Ford, Dodge and GM. Their key focus should be "ENTERTAINMENT"

And I hope the new host is as good a personality as Clarkson.

Simon Cowell?

- "This car is utter crap"
- "GM, do you actually think this is a good car?"

That's what I've been fearing. About as positive as I can get about it is that will be be about equivelant to Fifth Gear, which I like, but it's no Top Gear. There is something about the combination of the TG guys that just works.

I think if they have it so only non car manufacturers can advertise on the show, they might actually give real opinions of the cars. Unfortunately, $$$ talks

Well doesn't Simon have a Ferrari in his collection? He used to have an F360 Spyder...
http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/wind...015733,00.html (fast forward to the last 10 seconds or so)

I think he would be the best choice, at least from a snide and derisive standpoint and he's English. I think he'd be fun to watch, but he can't drive as well as Jeremy can? (I'm thinking no since he reportedly crashed his then new F430)

I'd like to see Leno do it; while he mainly takes the 'nice guy' stance, he'll spray some venom when warranted. I don't think he'd pull his punches if the producers let him, and he probably wouldn't do it without free rein.
