Exige Rain Tires

So I wore out my rears[surprise!] and was going to get another get of the same, but I have not been thrilled with the wet performance. I daily drive the car 8 months of the year, and the Dunlops have not been scary, but.....So I saw a thread on the Firestone[I know, really?] and read the test done by the tire rack, and they compared it to my very tire, and said mine were miserable in the rain.

So, the Firestones are better in the rain and the dry, so why not?

Well, they don't really come in the right sizes

It seems you have to get awfully big on the rears to avoid any potential ABS conflicts, or are those concerns overblown?

If I go with 205/45-16 on the front, they are slightly smaller in diameter than the stock 195/50-16 and to get the ratio back in sizes available, it looks like you have to go up to 245/40-17

Mind you, I am not looking to get wider tires, but merely trying to keep from screwing up

Would stock rears[225] get funky with the slightly smaller diameter fronts?

ABS is more sophisticated than comparing front to rear wheel speed so you don't need to worry about that. I run 205/45 with my BFGs and stock rears. No rubbing, no effect on steering weight. Every tire is different in it's sizing (like shoes and clothes, I suppose) so I can't speak to the fit of the Firestones.

Thanks I was looking for feedback from people who have run a similar setup.

This is the set-up that my 2008 Elise SC (Sport/Touring) had/has on it when I bought it in 2013.
My tires are hardening with age so replacement is imminent.
Because the RE-11 isn't made in 205/45-16 any longer, I'm considering alternatives.
Right now, the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Performance Radial is at/near the top of the list (bang for the buck)
Money no object? Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R would be choice for me but not as a rain tire just for their sticky grip traction.
For the street, I can't imagine a better set up. I don't drive the Elise in the rain however. It's so sweet, it might melt!
Braking has never been an issue.
Tire Size 205/45-16 | for rim diameter 6.5 - 7.5 (7") - Front
Tire Size 245/40-17 | for rim diameter 7.5 - 9 (8") - Rear
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires

Shhh...Secret Squirrel
