jprockjr - 2009 Lotus Exige S240 (wheel/tire/suspension/brakes)

All - The purpose of this thread is to document my different setups on the car. I will cover wheel, tire, suspension, and brakes that I have purchased and experimented with. Hoping this saves folks time and money. A lot of my experimentation came from not finding answers on the internet. I will continue to add information to the thread as I continue to find answers to my questions. I also want a location where I can store my pictures.

Vehicle: 2009 Lotus Exige S240 (4 of 14)
Wheels: OEM/Toybox/TE37SL
Tires: Yokohoma AO48, Toyo R888 (several sizes)
Brakes: OEM S240 BBK, AP Racing 4-wheel BBK
Suspension: OEM Bilstein Track Pack, Fred's Penske 2-way, 500F/700R (stock aero)

I will post pictures and try to be as specific as I can with with the setup. I have not tracked the car with any of these setups. I plan to track the car sooner than later. I weigh ~200 lb and usually have a passenger who weights ~200 lb.

Thank you for taking the time to share this information.

Having a known set of specifications will allow for further extrapolation if slightly different wheels/offset/tire size are considered.

Thought the rear tire sidewall looked small compared to front. So I went to a 255/40. Folks on the forums said it didn't fit. It worked for me. No spacers. Sidewall on R888 also bulged less.

Rear Toybox wheels do not clear brakes. They required a ~10.8 mm spacer and this leaves about 2 mm of brake clearance. I was forced to downsize tires from 255/40 to 235/45. Wanted a meatier tire. Prob my favorite setup. No rubbing but clearance is tight.

1) Thanks - if this thread has 1/2 the data as it does beautiful pictures it will be great! Seriously thanks for documenting your experiences.

2) Please Please Please do track your car to verify what works or not. That is the only way to safely test and verify the set up works. Some things might work 99% on the street -then that one bump or that one evasive maneuver will take out your fender/clam or cut the sidewall of the tire.

Tires: Toyo R888 225/45/16 Front, 255/40/17 Rear
Suspension: Fred's Penske 2-way shocks, 500F/700R (stock aero)
Brakes: AP Racing 4-wheel BBK

Note: Did not use Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors, used Rays stem valves.

Shoutout to member VoiceOfReason for the wheels. Wheels were new unmounted. They were part of this group-buy. The wheels clear the AP Racing 4-wheel BBK. Plenty of brake clearance. No spacers needed front/rear. Volk had specified it would not clear the BBK on the group-buy thread.

Thanks. I agree. Hoping to start tracking soon (this year). I have lots of pics so bare with me.

All - Just to be clear, these setups have been tested on the street only. The car drops an additional ~1/2 inch with a passenger and myself. I don't baby the car or slow down for bumps. I like the peace of mind of driving and enjoying the car on the street. So far no issues with the clam on street use only.

One of the most import bits of information you have not shared with us is the wheel's offset. Can you update your posts with each wheel's offset? TIA

Added offsets and TPMS info. I also took pictures of parts on a scale to document weight, I need to go thru camera roll.

Excellent pix!

The AP brakes are awesome as we first ran them on our '06 Exige. They stop - RIGHT NOW! It is worth noting that the handbrake is lost when you go with this upgrade.



On track you will rub with your set-up. The wheel well liners (especially fronts) are consumables on a track driven Lotus with lower ride height. Be prepared to raise the ride height a bit at the track.

Good question. Thought it was on the GroupBuy thread, but going thru it, I only found an approximate of 11lbs/15lbs. I'll weigh them next time I change tires.

Thanks Shinoo! Good to know. The Sector111 car in that pic inspired my build. Brakes are awesome despite losing the e-brake like you mentioned. Wish we had a solution. Been thinking of several ideas but haven't had time to test yet.

I'm in the hunt for an optimum e-brake solution too, as I have the awesome BBK set up too. Should anyone have an ebrake setup they are happy with, would you be willing to share?

What are your alignment specs on the rear to get the 255s to fit? I couldn't get the right setup with 17x8 +32 Monolites.
