Alternative engine cover? Non-C/F

I am wondering if anyone produces and sells an alternative engine cover? Say black anodised aluminum, titanium, or even clear plastic. I'm not a fan of the stock organic looking double walled piece in weight or looks. I just want a slightly curved piece with slats, louvers, or holes..
I'm sure someone will come up with an alternative cover like the S1 Exige covers that I have seen.

Are you talking about the plastic covers on the spark plugs and intake manifold or the trunk lid?

Your clear windows look really nice
I would say that you end up with higher engine bay temps though..
You might want to put a black plastic shield over your coolant overflow tank and other unsightly areas in order to showcase that beautiful engine of yours, that other stuff mucks it up a bit.


I want a completley different look (flat Aluminum/Titanium with just enough curvature to have some structural strength and a turned down drip edge for strength and function as well/black anodised perhaps..)

So far I have removed my stock louvers and installed Exige type screen.

Actually, engine bay temps are the same (measured before/after), possibly lower. And living in Miami and driving in August rush hour traffic, I'd notice it quickly. Here's another picture, notice how large the rear opening is, possibly more venting area than the OEM plastic vents.

A good amount of the original lid was cut away, which also allows for better clearance between the lid and the engine.

Did you cut the trunk or leave a gap at the trailing edge? Did you glue them or use double sided tape?

*Cut the engine lid where the louvers mount. Also cut the cross member that separates the fore and aft louvers.

*Acrylic panels are secured with stainless bolts/washers. Bolts screw into T-Nuts that are held in place with 1.5" Carbon Fiber tape. See picture below.

It's very difficult to see the acrylic, it is amazingly clear. According to the manufacturer of the acrylic, it has better clarity than glass.

Bought a new lid from LotusGarage, they are relatively inexpensive. The lid required paint - arrives unpainted.

I kept the original lid/louvers to revert to stock if needed, in case of resale. Although, I intend to NEVER sell my Elise.

Perryeyges - I'll take more recent pictures of my engine lid and send to you. In the interest of weight (seems of interest to you), I removed the entire lock/latch mechanism. Replaced this with a nice quick release pin that locks to a carbon fiber tube - VERY light weight and simple.

I removed the lock because I hated using the key. I have no latch yet since I am working on a magnetic catch. With no latch it has stayed down so far and does not leak in the rain. From the first pic, they always want to show them off when they are big and new.

Recent pictures would be great. I like the pin lock idea. I don't know about you but I never carry diamonds in my trunk....

Exactly, I carry nothing in my trunk - not even the foam pad or carpet. I'm also weight sensitive and continually finding things to remove/simplify. Just not as brave as you to start cutting...
