@vavoo , it was 3mm. An advice I could give, the evil screw may not be dropped into the door!!!!!! Reason, it won't fit the hole in the door! (Unbelievable.....). I ended up widening that hole till the screw passed through!! Luckily the black blanking decal is big enough to cover that hole lol, so you won't see it afterallSo best is to get help from a buddy so he can get the new plint while you keep the screw tight so it won't drop. I do not understand how Lotus does this.

I was thinking all the time that screw could be wider than the access hole!
I will try to keep the lower screw in there.

Here's a very valuable advice: make sure that you magnetize your Allen key as much as you can! Because otherwise you WILL drop those screws inside your door and you'll have to open up the whole thing.

I read somewhere that the super evil screw, the very deep one that you have to reach with an angle, is sometimes 3mm as opposed to 4mm like the other ones.
On my car it ended up being 3mm and I will have to go back to the store tomorrow to buy another Allen key because my 3mm is not skinny enough to go through the hole and reach the screw at the needed angle.
@stekki : were yours really 2,5mm? it looks like 3mm to me.

Vavoo, see post 53.

@LotusCC
Thank you! I ended up holding the lower screw with a tiny rare earth magnet from the outside.
Everything went well and I did not let any screw fall into the door... and this only because we've been warned here to be extra careful!

Am I the only one who had to cut the two prongs of the mirror part back by 5mm in order for it to fit into the plinth assembly?

All of a sudden, my white Elise looks more like a race car

That's weird!
On my non-federal 2008 car, the two plastic prongs that attach into the plinth, had to be cut down by exactly 5mm on both mirrors for it to fit snugly.

For pictures I will have to wait until I can roll her out of the cramped garage. It's snowing outside at the moment.

Right now, I have this picture I took with my phone to compare the mirrors when the first one was on.

It's important to note that each mirror sticks out 4cm farther than the original one.

Just a hair over 1 1/2" seems about right. I know some say they stick out like bus mirrors, but your measurements confirm that they extend out just enough to improve rearward visibility.
Looks good on white and still not sure why you had to trim them? Maybe because it's not a federal version?

You just push the rubber away only enough to access the hole for the screw.
