Talking The 5th Annual Bear Mtn. Cruze

Okay all you crazy people in the Tri-State area; You have a car? You like to drive on twisties? You like scenic views? You like to hang with a bunch of crazies like yourself?

Then join the rest of us crazies for the 5th Annual Bear Mtn. Cruze on Sunday, September 25 @ 8am.

This year, we will meet at the Lake Welch Parking Lot in Harriman State Park. Yep, no breakfast in Englewood this time (rather spend the time driving and avoiding tickets if possible!). I will post a map for those who don't know or don't recall the Lake Welch Parking Lot.
We will do the typical routes we have done in the past for the morning then our usual run up to the Perkins Memorial Observatory for the obligatory Photo Op!
And then we will (my favorite part of the day!) head up to see Geoff @ Barnstormers BBQ for lunch and libations (bring on the Chili!!)
For those who are up to it, the after lunch ride will be a few passes through the Storm King's picturesque curves! If you haven't seen this road, you should do it at least once.

Last year we had a really nice showing and we were able to split up into 2 groups which I thought worked out pretty good and we will do that again as needed (maybe 3 groups).

Okay, please show up promptly and with as full a tank as possible.

Have a walkie-talkie at your fingertips if possible.

A "navigator" is always nice but don't worry, you won't get lost, we got that covered.

No, it doesn't have to be a Lotus.

Yes, I will supply my cell if you need it, just send me a message.

I will post a couple more pics from last year and hope to take plenty more pics for this year's Cruze.
BTW, I still have plenty of the Koozies I had made up last year and I will have them to give out.
This year's goodies? Hhhmmmmmmm.........

ps. sorry about the group shot from last year. you know, you can always take a "good shot" but you can never get "good subjects" to work with. oh well......

Once again, the Bear Mtn. Run is on for this fall. This has been a regional highlight for club type driving events for several years now. The area is very scenic and the roads on the planned routes are very twisty, with a lot of elevation changes, and very well maintained. Thanks Lee for again setting this up.

The only problem with navigators is, they can get carsick when they don't have a steering wheel to hold onto....

Every time I drive that road I'm stuck behind some ****s doing 5 under the limit.

The only thing you're going to do with more horsepower is go faster.

Thanks for the kind words! I try my best.

So far we have 25 participants! Not bad considering it's about 5 months away.

BTW, in case some of you are not aware, this event has been posted on FB (isn't everything?).

It's in the Lotus Owners and Enthusiasts group.

It's a fun group on FB, so if you aren't a member, you should join!

I should point out that this event is not all about driving, the lunch is very casual and it's gives us all a chance to really get to know each other!

To me, all this, is a big party that we took the "long way" to! And the "long way" is a blast!

Since this event is about 5 months away, I need to start honing my driving skills and get ready for it.

So tomorrow morning, my buddy Josh and I are taking our Elises and heading down to NC for a few days.

Dragon's Back, Devil's Staircase, Little Switzerland, Cherohala Skyway and Tail of the Dragon just to name a few of the roads we will be revisiting.

All this just to be ready for Bear Mtn.

Ah, the sacrifeces one must make.....

V Josh and I on the Tail, he's in his Magnetic Blue and I'm in my Persian Blue (I'm winning!!!!).

Since Josh's car is more blurred than yours, he MUST be going faster!

Keep Practicing....

And, enjoy the trip.

Good try Atwell but you have to realize that Magnetic Blue is darker than Persian Blue so my car having the lighter color, it must be faster! lol

Okay Atwell, this pic was taken on the Tail in April this year.

This time Josh is up front.

Who's blurred now?

They BOTH look blurred to me, but I've already imbibed my medicinal Adult Beverage today.

By your previous definition, Josh is faster, because he is ahead of you? LOL

Atwell,

Please don't encourage him. Lee drives on public roads fast enough!

I won't be back from Colorado until the day prior but I'm planning on being there. I LOVE those roads! Just finished a track day at NJMP. I broke into the 1:35s on Thunderbolt!

Lee and I took last Wednesday off and headed up to Bear Mountain scouting the routes for this year's Bear Mtn. Cruze. Well, that is what we tell our wives. A good excuse to drive fast on terrific roads and just have fun. Arrived by 9:00 AM and had the park to ourselves for a few hours.

For those considering joining us next month, do it! The routes seem custom made for a Lotus with a ton of turns, elevation changes, short straights, and terrific scenery. Always a friendly group, with two separate "packs". One, a more leisurely pace, the other a bit faster and challenging. Both are fun.
