July 15, 2018 - Lotus Afternoon at the Dragon

Cliff Notes:
Pre-game: Harper's Cars and Coffee until ~11a
Plan: Grab lunch somewhere between Knoxville and US129 - Be at the gap around 12:30 - 1p and drive, hang out, meet new people... enjoy the afternoon until whenever.

Few more details:

Let's meet up for an afternoon of hanging out and driving the Tail of the Dragon aka US129 aka Deal's Gap.

Hopefully this will can be the start of an annual Lotus gathering at the gap... but let's start with an afternoon.

There are several hotels and camping in the area as well, make a weekend out of it!

I'm for certain up for it. Would like to meet anyone and everyone. Wish I was in a position to be more of a host, but I'm not so will just be a joiner this time. When I was on the West Coast I was honored to be a member of GGLC and experienced how tight the community can be.

Maybe I am just not plugged in enough and meets like this and those held by GGLC are happening all the time in the South East ?

Prob not, due to the percentage of Lotus that are on the West Coast. It was a Blast! I would love to try to get that started here. I just have to get my own house stable and in order first. Peacb

Well, I successfully helped run a local multi-make/model car club in Asheville a few years ago and know I need to quit being so much of a recluse these days. My exige is helping me do that and helping with the motivation to get back and finish my other 2 major projects. So I have no problem helping organize and plan events.

Within the next week or so I'll be planning my annual Blue Ridge Rotary Run (just ignore the fact the page hasn't been updated in 6 yrs - the event is still the same) for October and plan to expand it to invite the Lotus crowd - so hopefully we can get a regular SE event schedule going - or at least Southern Appalachia events!

The Atlanta group (Lotus Ltd Southeast) is having trips to the Dragon couple of times each year. Maybe some of us will join this event.

We are in the process moving to Nashville so I have no excuse!

well, it's this coming Sunday... who is planning to make it to Harpers? Would anyone like to meet up and roll in together? If so, where? when? or should I see about saving some spaces?

and who can we see at the gap??

I may actually be able to do this... Need to check with the wife! Where would we end and around what time? Also coming from Nashville I wouldn't be able to get there until around the time you want to leave the C&C.

I'll leave out from the gap to head back to Asheville and I don't really have a set time, but I'll probably ready to head out about 6p since it's a Sunday. I have no problem hanging out and getting lunch around Knoxville to meet up and turn roll together to the gap... just so we can have 1 more in the group

Lunch...

Gosh I have been so absorbed, has a location been thought up? Someplace in Maryville might be convenient. I wonder if Tomato Head is still open there? Maybe not. I am not the best with Maryville. It will be Sunday afternoon... someplace close in Knoxville might work, there is a Tomato
Head in Bearden real close to West Town Mall which is where The Harper's Car meet happens. Then again there will be a lot of people leaving the meet close to the Mall... Dang!

maybe not a bad idea to meet up at a food place on us129 - near the air port - i recall a large selection of choices last time I drove through there

I will be able to meet up in the morning for Cars/Coffee but won't be able to run the Dragon. I'd definitely like to see a few of us Lotus owners all parked together at the Cars/Coffee. Once you finalize a place and time to meet up, I will be there. I am on the west side of town but am willing to meet where ever, either near the mall or out near the airport. There is a Sonic right near the airport as well as a few other fast food places. There are quite a few meet up options out near the mall.

Airport would be out of my way to meet up, so near the mall will work best for me. I will be leaving Asheville at 5:30a, which should put me into Knoxville area about 7:30a

I googled map'd it and there is a Starbucks across the street on the west end of the mall. I'll plan to be there at 7:30, hang out there for a few and see if any other Lotus owners show up.

Starbucks
