2014 off season - bench racing thread

It's been pretty dead around here lately. So, what are everyones' plans for this winter? Any upgrades slated for the upcoming off-season?

Here's my "to do" list:
  • Swap Penske 8100 canisters for 8300s
  • Find a brake pad setup that results in more consistent braking
  • Build lightweight exhaust (<10 lbs?)
  • Characterize rear camber curve
  • Dyno a few different dampers
  • Source more wheels for back-to-back tire testing - ZII star spec, RS3, updated Rival

Funny, your list is so short and clean.

My plans are to purchase and install some new uprights to get the suspension in a happy spot and to make use of more than the outer 3" of the front tires. I'm also going to try to make some better custom fender flares. I'll be trying my hand at composites and I'm pretty excited to add that skill to my wheelhouse. If they come out nice, I'll probably make some for other people and sell them.

Other things on the list include a light weight roof and battery and adding some ballast under the nose to make up for those parts. I'm still running the stock battery.

That's it. I think the uprights will take more time off the clock than a motor build. You're almost always turning but you're seldom accelerating at full tilt. I suspect the motor build will happen for the 2016 season.

Short list

1. Finish listening to people about how stupid the 12 month changes we made to Street were.

2. Tune

3. Source second set of wheels for PCA autox/Time Trials.

4. V2arms

5. Improve braking.

6. iRacing and GT6 for offseason.

FYI ya'll (sorry, I've lived in GA for 19 years), I'm gonna have some V2 arms for sale very soon. I'll be ordering the uprights in a week after a little vacation.

Already jonsing for next season,

I plan on rebuilding my rear brake calipers, they seem to drag too much and with my HP+ pads they sqeak and sqeal when I'm rolling at slow speeds. Pretty annoying when your rolling into church or something with the wife and everybody is already staring at you and your car is going eeeeeeeeeek the whole time.
Fix leaky front brake bleed screws
Fix some body damage from hitting cones at 60 mph+
Fix the low fluid brake fluid sensor that comes on every time I turn left
Continue to beat up on PCA and out of town events

Not on the Elise but on the Birkin:

1. Install the Dash2 and DL1 from Race Technology
2. Replace the brake lines to the rear
3. Install plastic fuel tanks for Endurance racing
4. Install steel fuel lines where possible
5. New exhaust system, from block to tip
6. Maybe make a diffuser
7. Pretend I work at Gas Monkey and do doughnuts in the street

My season may only end in December and will be starting at the end of January again, not off for very long...

'06 111R with Endless MX72 brake pads front and rear and Lotus Driving Academy 1:1 tuition from Martin Donnelly.

Right... that's why every SS Elise in grid at nationals had a different setup (as far as I could see).

There were BWR hardcore bars, BWR small bars, stock Bilsteins, Ohlins, Penskes, rear toe out, rear toe in... This class should develop nicely.

Oh, I already have the big bwr bar and Ohlins. Exhaust was the last thing I "needed".
Toying with shock settings (and rear toe, likely) will happen when autocrossing starts back up next year. But I got lucky with my initial settings (shocks went on earlier this season) and it was pretty good right off the bat.
"Easy" referred to the parts list.

Just a note: I'm pretty sure the V2 arms aren't legal for SSP.

PS, if you go to the eliseparts front uprights, you can use the V2arms with them just fine (I emailed and verified this).

Is this because they function as a front bump steer kit as well?
