I just sent my letter. In typing the letter, citing the various rules, I'm becoming of the opinion that it needs to be there.

It does not really fit the "loose item" bit. It is not, from what I've read here, prone to flopping about (the battery, otoh....hah). From what I've seen, though, reading here and looking at cars, it seems fairly well secured.

So, 3.3.3.1.B does not really cover it - not really a "loose item."

Then, the spare tire rule - nutshell, spare tires, jacks, associated stuff can come out, AS WELL AS things that rely on the jack/spare - so, if taking the jack/spare out CREATES a loose item, that's fair game, too.

Does not really apply in our case.

SO, unofficial interpretation (I'm not on the SEB, but was at one time), it should be there.

We should get a good answer, though - a current SEB member used to autocross an Elise in SS (Brian Conners).

.02c.

Seems like a "duh" and it needs to be there. I guess everyone has to make sure it's there now thanks to the spotlight being put on it.

my interpretation is that the plastic cover is to hold the owners manual. so i would ask if they want the owners manual and its plastic holder held in by clothing snaps in the trunk.....

"I really started paying attention to cars was when they came out with the Nissan Z, the first body. Then I seen the Cherokees, the old square ones, and I was like, “Wow, that’s cool.” Then I seen the Isuzu jeeps and I seen the Wranglers."

This was discussed last month. I would think you'll see the results in the upcoming fastrack. A bit late for Nationals, but the clarification will help going forward.

I know nobody looked at mine because none of you laughed at the broken one I borrowed and taped to my battery.

Does not matter now - letter written, response rec'd:

Street
#14438 Battery Box Clarification
Add to Appendix F under STREET CATEGORY CLARIFICATIONS: ”The plastic Lotus Elise battery cover may be
considered to be a “loose item” in reference to rule 3.3.3.B.1 and may be removed during competition.”

Anyone want to buy a lightly used battery box?

I just put my Odyssey battery and bracket up for sale if anyone wants it for off-season. See FS section.
