I just want to keep my LLS wheels and have fun in SS.
What tires does everyone suggest for 2015?

My vote is either the Hankook RS3 Version 1 (warmer climates) or Version 2s for northern climates.

Or Dunlop ZII Star Specs

2005 Lotus Elise Graphite Grey - Salvaged title started the SSM build!!!
Maverick ML8 - Other daily
2005 VW Passat Station Wagon TDI (harder to find than the lotus?)

SSR Type C weights:

15x6.5 +42 = 9.18 lb

16x6.5 +30 = 12.37 lb

17x7.5 +36 = 13.57 lb

EDIT: 15x6.5 SSR Type C requires the thickest legal wheel spacer. Here's the fitment between the caliper and wheel spoke with 15.8mm of spacer in place:

It looks like the RE71Rs are doing well on a variety of cars at the national events, including some lighter cars...very tempting to click the button on Tirerack!

Clarification:

In Street classes you can use any spacer that brings the wheel/spacer combination in line with the wheel limitations.
"It is the same width as standard and as installed it does not have an
offset more than 7.00 mm (0.275) from a standard wheel for the car."

So I guess that for a specific car, and a specific wheel, there is a "thickest legal wheel spacer", but there is no one "thickest legal wheel spacer" for all Street Category cars.

Right... which is why the wheel spacer is well over 7mm thick.

My 15" SSR knockoffs need a 13mm spacer to get back to "legal," the "thickest legal." I forget the numbers, but basically, I thought I'd need more but I'm glad I did not, as more != legal, in that case.

Finally making good progress with this car.

Saturday - a couple of bobbles, but a good thread-the-needle course for the Elise

Sunday - more open and acceleration dependent, but a cleaner run than Saturday

So earlier I voted for RS Ver 1 or 2s...but after what I have seen recently from Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R....those things are amazing. Everyone in our club is jumping on them as the go to tire...the only downfall is that I haven't seen anything in my size yet (225/45/15 Front). And at $80 more new...I would have gone with the Bridgestones if they had my sizes at the time I was shopping.

Dawson, which tires did you go with this year? Those runs look great by the way.

I will be REALLY curious to hear your comparison between the RE-71R vs. the Rival S...this should be pretty fun.

Jake, you were flying out there! Looks like between the Penskes, your development on the RE-71Rs, and your abundance of talent, it is getting done! Congrats on Top PAX!
