In my opinion the only place to really sweat is turn ten coming off the back banked straight. If you lift through the turn you may spin. The track is quite smooth and in good shape. As tracks go, Homestead is great. There were four Elises at Homestead at the last event. We all had a blast. You get more driving time in just one lap that a full day of autocrossing. Come out and give it a try!

While you get more seat time, a DE is not a "race", or a competitive event.

Autox is a low risk / high fun quotient type of event.

Also a lot of social interaction.

And does not burn up your car.

Also--You will learn a lot more about how to go fast, because you will constantly trying to go faster, and close the gap to the Neon's that are whomping on you.

The real competiton is at a SCCA autox
(although there isn't much seat time)

Bottom line
Love what you do and do what you love

You can lessen your risk even more, "burn up" your car less, compete more, and socially interact even more by staying home and playing your X-box with some buddies.

I wasn't knocking Autocross. I've done a lot of that and enjoyed it immensely. I was only suggesting that if you want more seat time to get out to a track event. I bought my Lotus to drive. Not to hang around and talk about it.

Just pointing out that autox also has "thrilling" moments, but without the high speed risk.

Enjoy your car

I ran Moroso twice with NASA. I need to go a couple more times before I form my final opinion.

I was hooked on Autocross from day one. The track was not an instant love affair.

What david the zo6 guy on the elise message board, hey dave mitch with the silver lotus, what are you doing here. For you guys who do not know dave, he is a top notch autox guy on the south florida scene, looks like he is lurking around to possible get a lotus. Autox is great fun and track days are great fun, both can be hard on your cars depending on how you treat them. I like ,Chris prefer more seat time and I like autox but 4-5 runs is too much waiting and not enough driving. PCA/ER autoxs do a good job but there are too many people interested and not enough events to get the numbers down. By the way chirsw mentioned he likes chin, they give alot of seat time but have many groups going at one time which can cause some fustrations, I like NASA events and PCA,pboc is good too, nothing agaist chin, but I like to know that I am with guys whom are equally classed skill wize and race cars should not run with street cars IMHO. JimC tracks events take a few times for it to hook u, as you have both fear and excitement and fun all rolled into one and most guys feel unsure until about 4-5 events then you are comfortable and enjoy the car, it is just a newbie thing, it took me 4 events in the lotus to feel good about my driving of the car.

Any Lotus guys coming to the practice at Gulfcoast Autocrossers in Ft Myers this Saturday ?

I think I am going to be an instructor at the novice school. You guys can ride with me in my 400rwhp vette and I could ride with you in the Lotus

PS--I am still thinking about the Lotus for joining my stable
PPS---how much quicker for autox is a sport over a touring ?

Anyone coming out tomorrow--Sat ?

Not quite as much as a regular C5 vs a Z06, but your not likely to see anybody in trophies in a non LSS suspension at nationals.

Spacers necessary with SSR's from tirerack ?
Are you sure Junior was on 245 rears at nats ?

So this is $20 and I don't have to preregister?

Maybe I can do this.

This is the same one you did right Jim?

go to gulfcoastautocrossers.com for exact directions.

exit 138 off I-75 go east to sunset , believe----make right on sunset it's a dinky road ------go straight across, gunnery(i think)

It's Buckingham airfield, the best autocross site in Florida, and on of the best in the country.

No preregistration----free lunch of hot dogs on Sat, hot dogs and burgers for Sunday's competition.

Go to their website it's autox nirvana-----

About 1 hr 45 min from where I live in Plantation. Easy drive across the alley.
I would get there between 730am and 800am---personally I will try to be there at 730.

They run a novice school in the morning non-timed runs on a practice course, with instructors in the cars part of the time.

In the afternoon you go over to the timed course.
Or you could do the timed course all day.
But this time I think I am going to some instructing at the school in the am, run the timed course in the pm.

Care for a ride in my piggish 2900 lbs vette with about 460 crank hp, or about 400 rwhp----good 2nd gear acceleration !

Trying to decide, I forgot I have a certification test Tuesday, and Mid-Terms on Wednesday and Thursday. I really need to study a bit.
