^ Removing the footwell plates will only keep the cockpit cooler if the cabin circulation is on (outside air is closed off). For cool weather driving, it's best to re-install the footwell plates using velcro to prevent cold drafts.
Insulate the center spline between the dash and the radiator to improve AC cooling. I'm doing this soon. That's the easiest fix to minimize heat from the radiator from reaching your 4" HVAC hose and even the dash. That alone won't stop the HVAC box from heat soaking as the heater core is nearby, so consider the variable Heater Core Bypass Mod to keep the AC blowing super cold.

Recirc always works
The button opens and closes the fresh air door which kinda slows down the outside air

Just a final question:
Would it make any sense to remove the footwell plate if my recirculation does not work?

I did have the clam off one time to replace the stock radiator (leaked) with an all aluminum. (Corvus deserves much praise)
I remember it took a couple hours to take it off and put it back on, so I would rather not, I may live with it and do as I have.

there is a good writeup on the clam removal here somewhere, I printed it out and put it in my shop manual.
Two things I discovered, tools are big. Get metric ratcheting box wrenches, both regular and flex head.
The shims fall out. Keep track of where they come from[not that hard] and bag them separately. Tape them together to reinstall

I am assuming the DVM is a volt meter?

First, taking the clam off is not rocket science, and makes all the other stuff easier, or possible at all.
Removing the recirc covers is just required for the AC to work properly, and when it is all working properly a cool breeze is solved by turning the heat on, as the fan on low will easily overpower the breeze coming in.
To troubleshoot the temp flap, get a DVM
there are 3 wires on the connector for the flap under the access panels. Ground, 12 volts switched and 0-12 volts from the knob. The wiring diagram will tell you which wire is which. Disconnect the plug going to the flap servo. So with the key on you should have 12 volts across two of the pins, and a variable voltage on the third. If you have the 12 volts and ground check the third and see if it gives you a voltage that will vary with the knob. If all that is true, the motor is either dead or stuck. We have seen at least one member have a rock get stuck in the flap. Other than that, I don't know that you can get the servo out with the heater box in place, which means, clam off.
If you do not have these voltages, then the problem is up the way a bit. Pull the heater control panel out and look for stray wires. Since the recirc button appears not to do anything, it is possible the fan switch is not putting out the 'fan on' voltage that tells the switch pack module what is going on, but then your AC compressor would probably not fire.....
Have you done your heater resistors yet? If not, this is the time.

My concern about removing the footwell covers is the draft when its cooler.
Ideally, if i were able to fix the flap, that would be ideal, but i have not found good instructions how to access or replace any of that

Combination of A/C issues
Just got finished reading a lot of threads and SirLotus information.
Background information: I live in the northeast US. I rarely drive the lotus in inclement weather, very rarely snow, rarely rain, but occasionally I do get caught. Temperatures that I drive in vary between freezeing temperatures through 90 degree weather. Humidity is not often too high, but I am caught in some humid hot rainy weather once in a while.
My particular set of symptoms:
1) My temperature knob does not work (more on this later)
2) My recirculation button seems to do nothing
Things I have done:
1) Checked that my flap motor under the left front access panel does not move. I manually move it a few times a year depending on weather
I need a decently well working A/C for the 90 degree hot days
I need my heater to work as well
I need moisture removal when its humid
My skills: I am not a mechanic, but have fiddled around a bit on cars. I have good access to tools, but limited knowledge and skill (Probably won't be able to take off my front clam)
I've read about removing footwell cover and would be willing as long as it wont negatively affect my needs.
I welcome any suggestions
