I was thinking the same thing. Also trying to justify buying a trailer for the track and wondered if I would be able to offset the cost by renting it out.
Numbers are hard to justify though: The cheapest open trailer from Trailex would be about $6k all in. U-haul rents open trailers for about $75 per day with tax and insurance.
So it may be a stretch to get someone to pay more than $100 per day for basically the same thing. That means 60 day rentals to cover the cost of the most basic trailer, and the days someone would want to use it are probably the same ones I would. Location in LA is an issue too. Unlikely someone would come down to South Bay from the Valley or up from OC, so the pool of potential "customers" is limited too.
5 to 10 rentals per year seems optimistic, which means it would take 6 to 12 years to pay off the cheapest Trailex by renting it out.
Decided just to use U-Haul!
