joldsha Here is the map for this drive:

http://goo.gl/AS7ULd (1715 miles)
https://goo.gl/cYpxyQ (495 miles)
https://goo.gl/U8Mmos (317 miles - had to use bicycle route, because google says that it could not calculate it by car)
https://goo.gl/nL88G3 (440 miles)
http://goo.gl/zcDai7 (269 miles)
https://goo.gl/sLzRn9 (962 miles)
http://goo.gl/tgK6n1 (1174 miles)
https://goo.gl/FomeHM (705 miles)

total miles: 6077 miles
On the way to Nevada from California on Day 1 - there were fires in the area, then heavy rainstorm/hail
On the way back to California from Oregon on the last day - there were also fires in the area and we had a small problem..not car related..but became car related later..or else we would of taken better roads home.

All in all, the trip was very nice and we encountered many animals and awesome roads. Our next road trip will probably be to Lake Louise in Quebec next year.

joldsha Day 15 (Sep 2). Had a nice last day route planned, but like life, nothing is ever guaranteed. No pictures, just silver lining. Had some issues (non-lotus related), but my wife and I went home first (7.5hrs drive), then we drove our Mazda3 back north to help with the issue, but on our way the Mazda3 had a flat tire..in a no service phone area in an isolated section of the mountains around 9pm. Long story short, we are all ok, but that day and the day after were pretty long. Funny how my Lotus had far less problems then my Mazda. Now I'm thinking of replacing my Mazda with another car.

On another note, I read Randy Chase's fb post about one of our gglc members doing a 8000 mile road trip to cross off her bucket list..I believe she's 82. Damn, wish I could of gone with her on that trip, but after this trip..I'm beat. I've driven over 5000 on this trip with the detours and starting point...but 8000 is on another level.

joldsha Day 14 (Sep 1). Back to CA. Almost home, just another 500 or so miles. Lighthouse. Two deers (adult and fawn) ran across a main city street. I have no idea where they came from..thank god the light just turned green and nobody sped fast enough. Beautiful coast and then we ran into dense smoke (wild fire in a nearby forest). Some random picture while I was driving. My wife noticed it and I didnt.

joldsha Day 13 (Aug 31). In OR again. Olympic National Park. Hoh Rain Forest. Driving down the coast. Went to get gas at some unexpected town and they happened to have the supposedly world's largest spruce tree 🙄. Tillamook's Cheese and Ice Cream Factory.

joldsha Day 12 (Aug 30). In WA. Maryhill Stonehenge replica. Was in England in 2011 and was never able to get this close. Bridge of the Gods. Decided to take another detour, this time to Olympic National Park (whats another 190 miles north).

joldsha Sorry, been tired and busy since I got back..here are the rest of the days:

Day 11 (Aug 29). In OR. Sawtooth Scenic Byway to Ponderosa Scenic Byway in Idaho. Nice roads..although other drivers are either really slow (below speed limit) or don't want to pull into the slow lane (they cant be bothered with us spirited drivers). Still debating on which state drivers dislike us more..ID or OR. Nothing too eventful..ran into 2 Canadian drivers who drove slow and wouldnt let anyone pass..frustrating..but eventually on the mountain corners..we were able to wizz by.

David Craig Love all those animals!

joldsha Day 10 (Aug 28). In ID. Continental Divide. Yellowstone Bear World. Close Encounters of the Bear Kind. Moose about a hop skip and jump away. Craters of the Moon (climbed to the top of a volcanic hill, me in the far far background - with the eclipse at the beginning of our trip, we didnt drive into this national park until today).

joldsha Day 9 (Aug 27). In WY. While saying goodbye to South Dakota, we decided to check out the Space&Air Museum in Box Elder. Delicious Cinnamon Roll at Outcast Cafe (Cinnabon better take lessons). Decided to drive to Nebraska as a detour. Stripe deers on the side of the road (not sure which kind they are).

joldsha Day 8 (Aug 26). In SD, too many things to see and do. Went back to Custer State Park (yesterday had some random thunder showers)..today all clear. Saw a pack of wild mules by the road, got a picture of 1. Wind Caves National Park. Jewel Caves National Monument. Sanford Labs (interesting place that talked about science stuff beyond my knowledge funded by the Department of Energy and Lead city). Took a nice drive along Spearfish Canyon Road.

joldsha Day7 (Aug 25). In SD. Final destination. Mt Rushmore; Crazy Horse (his head is on the mountain in the background, its 87ft tall compared to Mt Rushmore's heads of 60ft); Custer State Park; Badlands National Park. And an unusual wild animal sighting (a family of goats on the side of the road in Badlands), for us city folks.

joldsha Day 5 (Aug 23). Still in MT, but borderline. Lots of driving. Awesome roads like Highway 212. Different bisons taking their time on the road through Yellowstone National Park; Bunnies at our hotel parking lot...just want to take one home.
08-25-2017 05:08 AM
joldsha Day 4 (Aug 22). Still in MT. Pics of Glacier National Park and Going-to-the-Sun road; Choteau Ice Cream Parlor and Dinosaur Museum; Cow Crossing...dont see many in California.

David Craig Loving those photos. Makes me wonder why I am sitting here typing in C++ code when I could be there instead.

joldsha Day 3 (Aug 21). Now in MT. On the way toward the center of the Eclipse's totality, we stopped by the Devil Boat. The road that ran along the Salmon River was quite nice, but would have preferred fewer cars (it's all the sun & moon's fault). How come they couldn't wait another week or two until my annual trip is over?
