lotusquacious For me the Evija's flaw is that it is meaningless in my automotive universe. As a statement, it's fine. As a product, it is irrelevant to me. A matter of passing interest only.

SelinaS19 Exterior looks like a beast and the interior is so simple that it looks clean. Wonder how it feels to drive it.

This already happened. It was called the Tesla Roadster. I am pretty sure another company tried as well called Detroit Electric and as far as I know its dead in the water.

Also, you're assuming this won't happen. Lotus explicitly said that the tech from the Evija will trickle down.

No they wouldn't. There are probably tens, if not hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of people who just realized Lotus either existed or still existed when they heard about the Evija. This is the point of the Evija. To bring new brand awareness, create a flag ship car, to take what they learned from the Evija and apply that to their new line-up of cars. I really don't understand why some people don't get this. Whether it will work or not will remains to be seen, but I think you are fooling yourself to think if Lotus just released a new electric Elise-like car that it would have sold well, it most like would not. Lotus still has a lot of work to do and a big one is their dealership network. It makes way more sense to start at the top and whittle your way down than to start at the bottom and try to fight your way up.

And they won't get there by making an electric Elise. Its funny you mention McLaren because I don't remember McLaren starting out making a $60k budget McLaren and working their way up. They made a hypercar, and then to reinvigorate the brand they made another hypercar. Flagship cars for any company are rarely money makers they are to show off their tech and design.

The good news is that Lotus has stated they still want to make cars in their current price brackets. Whether they do or not remains to be seen.

It will crush it how? Definitely not looks. Price? I don't think someone looking at a Evija is doing comparing shopping with the Roadster. Ones a limited production exotic hypercar, the other is not. I don't think Lotus would do all that work on the Evija knowing it would get crushed by the Roadster, sorry, that just doesn't make sense.

khamai We've learned that Lotus will be bringing the Evija to Monterey in 2 weeks!

First, on Friday Aug 16 at the Quail Car Show (where Lotus is a premiere sponsor) and then again on the lawn on Sunday Aug 18 at the Pebble Beach Concours.

Tickets to Quail are near impossible to get, but it's still possible to get into Pebble. Some of us "locals" with the Golden Gate Lotus Club will try to get to both events and share photos and video during the weekend.

Cheers,
Kiyoshi

My M3P (performance) is an absolute blast to drive. It's completely tossable and runs 3.1 0-60's all day long. Stoplight assassin.

All that said, I'm happy to see that Lotus is realizing the ICE age is over.

They claim it's based on technical/historical significance and low production. Much less significant and higher production cars have made the cut.

My $22,000 Honda Civic Si has a side camera. It’s really useful , all cars should have them. Especially mid engined.

Europa TC I can't quite afford one (: but the PR for Lotus must be massive. When people are now inspired to go into a dealer and discover they can buy a brand-new 400 for $85,000, they will feel like billionaires. Let's bask in the temporary glory. As Lotus enthusiasts, this should make us all happy.

David Craig Stunning rear and interior.

The front/sides look a bit Ferrari/McLaren.

Butters The design considerations and how it all resolves into the final form for the Evija is so incredibly thoughtful. Huge fan and I'm wondering what kind of halo effect this will cast over the brand's line-up moving forward. We are definitely at the advent of a new era of motoring. Super exciting stuff.

Rimac Concept Two, Tesla Next Gen Roadster, Lotus Evija. The first two are technological wet dreams seemingly created in a vacuum created by the gravitational forces of decades of science fiction -- all flat screens and facial recognition. For my money (which, to be clear, I'll never have), the Lotus take on the hypercar is the correct one because it's harnessing futurism in service of the romance and tradition of driving beautiful, engaging machines. I'd like to think Chapman wouldn't be too disappointed if he were still around --- using all the benefits of all the latest technology to make it go fast and turn well, but leaving the extraneous off the table.

I'm looking forward to dreaming about never driving, let alone owning, this car.

steelypip I found the Russel Carr talk through very interesting. There's a lot of reach in this design - it goes places that nobody else has gone in both styling and (particularly) aerodynamic management. I really like that Carr is very experienced with both design and the reality of getting something into production - his talk about the ongoing pain of getting the badge right and the pleasant surprise of actually being able to do the taillights as desired provided the sort of detail you don't get from some gushy talking head waving his arms.

I'll be a little surprised if there isn't a way to adapt a lot of this to a hybrid or conventional ICE powertrain car. I am curious if they're going to go downmarket with carbon fiber tubs or are going to stick with the very successful and flexible aluminum tub model.

Nice video with Carr discussing the design was released. I’m in love. Although my wife suggests that I shouldn’t be watching this while on narcotics (had a 3 level spine surgery today lol). Not sure how long until I can get in the Evora again now that I think about it. 🤔

2,000HP for $1.7euros. But 0 to 62 claim is just “under 3 seconds” and top speed 186. Same top speed as the Evora 400. Way higher than Tesla P100D that’s electronically limited though.

If the 0-60 speed is 2.5s or less than this is a serious competitor to other true Hypercars. Only 130 being built. 1 is coming to Florida!!! 😊
Spec's aren't definitive probably to not key competition. Under 3 seconds could be 2.1. Top speed was listed as over 200, so probably under 250 mph. 186 mph (300 kph) was used in context of 0 to 186 mph .. under 9 sec. Oh price is in British pounds not euro's, so budget 11% more.
Ahhh missed the 9s part... thanks! Just watched another video that said 200+mph. That makes much more sense given the weight to power ratio. Unless they speed control it.

Good point.
So $2.11M U.S.
Ouch.

Markmysite CNN showing some love for the Evija. They even mention that the Tesla Roadster was based on the Elise frame.

https://apple.news/AuTJ2QcfyR_GA4WA_U3eCmA

You heard it here first!!! 😂
I predict that Elise and Evora used prices will surge 20-30% or more in the next 2 years because of the spotlight the Evija will give to the Lotus brand. Most people have no clue what Lotus is about and haven’t ever seen an Evora. The questions you get at the gas station:

Who makes Lotus? “Ummm, Lotus. You’ve heard of Lotus racing right?”. Not sure they really did though.

What did that cost, like $300-$400K. “Yes” (small white lies won’t hurt anyone right &#x1f602;<img src="https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Wink" class="inlineimg" />

How fast does it go? Faster than a Lambo? “Yes”, again lol

Is that street legal? “Really?!?”

I think if people actually knew about or test drove a Lotus they’d be shocked how it drives and sales would sky rocket. I would pick this car over a Cayman or Vette any day.

Lotus needs to push for major marketing dollars from Geely. The Evija is out of reach for 99.8% of people. But it will draw many new people to the brand. The Evija tech is obviously why Geely purchased them and made them their new technology division hub.

Great things to come for this historic brand!
