smurfm3 Save time and go for the BWR Penske’s. Even the singles would be far superior to Track pack shocks.

David Craig Elise vs Exige OEM shocks.

I've tried both on my Elise. The Exige shocks are firmer but switching from Exige to Elise shocks won't make your girlfriend love the ride.

You will probably notice the difference but I doubt that she would.

ray101381 Just got the NA Penskes and I have to say they’re incredible. Had the lss before and the penskes are firmer but very controlled and locked in so much more comfortable since the harshness is gone. Can’t say enough good about the NA penskes. I have the 350/500

It 100% comes down to the size of the piston, oil viscosity, and valving. I've been racing r/c cars since 1984, and one thing I've learned in all these years is suspension and shock tuning.

If you're fascinated by the lotus suspension, check out some of the 1/10th scale race cars. The industry has gone to over-sized shock bodies and pistons. This gives much more tuning ability for what's called Pack. You can alter the weight of the oil and the size of the piston holes to change the velocity characteristics of the shock motion. Thinner oil and smaller pistons will let the piston move very easily in fast motions in very short strokes - this improves the "bounce", but when the piston moves a long distance in a very short time, the resistance will be MUCH greater. Thicker oil and larger piston holes will have the opposite affect. This is why the larger shock bodies work better, and why I do want the NA's.

Even consumer grade r/c's are incredible these days.

fzust As I've stated previously, the track pack are terrible, terrible shocks. I've dynoed them and they are laughable. I don't know who signed off on them...... We've pulled many of them off cars. The problems with the rest of the Bilsteins are well-known. The base shocks are very soft and have very little control. The sport pack shocks lock down the valving to keep the tiny shafts from moving so they are very harsh and have the oh-so-enjoyable Snap over-steer that I am sure many here have enjoyed spinning across an autox course or track. The track-pack is the cream of the crop(sarcasm) because the springs are too soft, but they are adjustable from harsh to harsher on on the knob. lose-lose :P It is easy to thrown rocks, but I am glad that Lotus cut costs here because it is easily fixed.

With the Penskes, even the NAs, we use the full-size body, Piston, and large shaft so there is alot of fluid displacement with minute shaft movements. Fluid movement = control capability. Although we are using the larger body and shaft, they are lighter because they are aluminum bodies and pistons.

A couple of different ways to go. The NAs with 350/500 are a great all-around offering. Much more controlled than the bilsteins and though firmer, are less harsh on the road and responsive for the track. Drop the spring rate to our "cruiser pack" and it is more comfortable than base bils.

Some folks like the Single or Double Adjustable, but put the 350/500 from the NAs on there. Plenty of adjustment in the valving for it. This gives a plusher ride on the street and dial up to even racier on the track.

Mattjk, you could try the base shocks, however, they are borderline too soft on the elise, I don't know where you would end up with the heavier car. That money could be put towards the Penskes. Obviously, we're biased, but I started this because I am a Lotus enthusiast and I wanted to fix the issues for my own cars.

oldmansan Buy the Penskes now instead. None of the stock shocks are very good. Call Fred at BWR and get his opinion. He won't sell you something you don't need. Installing the stock Elise shocks is just a waste of time (and money) IHMO.

Base Elise shocks on an Exige S240

Has anyone tried this? Would they be too soft? 90lbs weight difference between the two cars.

I plan on taking 1400 mile road trip in the exige soon, and I am trying to make the trip as bearable as possible for the GF. I currently have the track pack, which I do not want to take the road trip on.

After the road trip, I had planned on getting the BWR NA's.
