This morning while stuck in traffic my engine temp rose to 108 deg C (226.4 F). The display started to blink.

Is this a safety limit for the car? Usually the highest it ever gets is about 106 deg...

Not sure this is referring to what you are asking... but I bypassed the entire hot water piping which is supposed to head to the front heater and then back to the engine bay.... right at the engine...
