The regular Autocar magazine 0-100-0 contest has just been published in the UK. The 111R took part with the following figures:

0-30 1.84
0-60 4.84
0-100 12.33
100-0 4.09
Std 1 mile - [email protected]

Total time give was 16.8 which includes a reaction time of getting to 100 and jumping on the brakes of 0.38 secs.

In comparison
111R 16.80
Boxster S 17.65
Std M3 17.04
350Z 18.72
RX8 21.17
M3CSL 15.25
GT3 13.46
Gallardo 13.65
Enzo 10.98

The Box S and M3 interestingly were still behind the 111R at the 1 mile mark, passing it at 35.84 secs for the Boxster and 35.20 for the M3 - They were however going about 10mph faster at that point so it wouldn't be long after a mile that they'd go past. So if your going to race in a straight line make sure its a mile long at most!

Overall winner was the Caterham R500 Evo with a time of 10.73 - Just edging out a GSXR1000 at 10.89

Cool! I knew that the 0-100 time was faster than what Lotus implied. !2.33 sec is cool, maybe with sport pack it will be 12 sec flat.

Ask and ye shall receive... ;)

Ok, I plunked and massaged those performance numbers into CarTest2000 and came up with this...

(1965 lb Elise 111R with 150 lb driver)

0-30 mph: 1.84 (to match)
0-60 mph: 4.84 (to match)
0-80 mph: 8.00
0-100 mph: 12.33 (to match)
0-120 mph: 18.22
0-130 mph: 23.66

60': 2.12
330': 5.69
660': 8.69 @ 84.28 mph
1000': 11.24
1320': 13.42 @ 103.64 mph

And now with the LSS (adjusted traction for 1.200 g's and 22 lbs. lighter)

(1943 lb Elise 111R with 150 lb driver)

0-30 mph: 1.71
0-60 mph: 4.64 (adjusted 0.2 seconds faster as factory claims)
0-80 mph: 7.78
0-100 mph: 12.07 <- nice!
0-120 mph: 17.86
0-130 mph: 23.19

60': 2.10
330': 5.59
660': 8.57 @ 84.94 mph
1000': 11.10
1320': 13.28 @ 104.22 mph

I estimate that the 0-100-0 numbers for the LSS would be 12.07 + 0.38 + 4.09 = 16.54 seconds, assuming that the LSS tires stop as good as the stock tires... duh!

And now back to our previously scheduled program... ;)

That is an impressive 1/4 mile time! Wow, looks like this thing is gonna do just fine even in the straights!
most definitely. and it's just the beginning. Once we shave some more weight and bump the power over 200 hp, this mofo is going to whoop some serious a$$. I think if we can knock off another second and a half from the 0-100 and a second from the quarter mile, we will be in excellent shape!

A tutbo with 300hp will plunk the LSS equipped Elise 111R into super exotic territory:

2018 lbs. (has +75 lbs for turbo + plumbing...) with 300hp / 218 lb/ft torque yields...

0-30mph: 1.09 <- sticky tires help!
0-60mph: 3.14 <- can you shift this fast? That's almost a Hayabusa!
0-80mph: 5.24
0-100mph: 7.94 <- comes close to the Enzo...
0-120mph: 11.04
0-130mph: 13.68
0-150mph: 19.99 <- this is stunning... into 6th gear in less than 20 seconds...

60': 1.66 <- I managed this on full drag slicks in my stripped delSol once.
330': 4.76
660': 7.34 @ 95.56 mph
1000': 9.57
1320': 11.44 @ 120.67 mph <- truly outstanding - that's the top of 4th gear.

Holy crap!

I don't quite get the 1/4 mile times. It does 0-100 in 12.33 and does the 1/4 mile in 13.42 @ 103.64. Does it really take another 1.09 seconds to get 3.64 mph faster?

Believe it or not yes. That speedo needle starts too really slow down when you get to the higher speeds. It's not going to move like it was when you where doing 0-60. Those taller gears need alot of HP to continue getting them to move quickly at higher speeds (also remember aerodynamics really put a drag on the party...

Well you're in 4th gear... and running against a 100mph wind (146 ft/second+) - and it's taking about 57 whp (about 68 hp) just to maintain speed due to aero/rolling loss... you only 122 hp left to accelerate. Add to that the 4th gear gearing and almost 4 mph /second acceleration rate is pretty damn good!

Just my $0.02...

It's hard to beat those Caterhams! After all the Elise is rather "portly" compared to even my Caterham SV. We'll see if the mid-engined chassis dynamics make up for the extra heft.

darkSol, can you recalculate those numbers with 230 hp and a weight of 1975 lbs?
Thanks!

OK, here it is... 1975 lbs, 150 lb driver, 230 hp, 167 lb/ft torque (linear increase)... turbocharged I assumed (N/A would have substantially lower torque and higher peak hp rpm):

0-30mph: 1.63
0-60mph: 4.17
0-80mph: 6.81
0-100mph: 10.32
0-120mph: 14.73
0-130mph: 18.58
0-150mph: 29.87

60': 2.03
330': 5.39
660': 8.21 @ 90.26
1000': 10.63
1320': 12.67 @ 110.94

That's really really close to 2004 Z06 territory - and Ferrari 360 Modena / Porsche GT3 too...

Enjoy!

back to the actual results:

Lotus Elise 111R:
100-0mph: 4.09secs

Ferrari Enzo:
100-0mph: 4.08secs

Porsche Carrera GT:
100-0mph: 4.10secs

the GT and Enzo both stop from 60-0 in ~109 ft.

I'd be surprised if the Elise stops in less than 105

Cool! Thanks, darkSol. that is my target hp, maybe less weight but the times are exaclty what i'm looking for.
